which 22 target pistol? Colt or S&W ?

Please do not recommend a Ruger or Browning: I used to have a MkII 6 7/8 slabside. I kinda wish I still had that but I do not. Currently I have a Buckmark Plus UDX walnut that I really like except for all the aluminum holding it together. It shoots straight enough though.

What I would really like is a realy nice, all-steel, 22 target pistol. I wish I lived elsewhere so I could pick up an older High Standard.

Alas, I am currently stuck in ************ and the only decent target pistol on the stinking list is a S&W 41. I was all set to buy one until a consignment pistol hit the local dealers's shelf. It is Colt Woodsman 2nd edtion Match Target in really good conditon for $900.00 about the same for an excellent to new model 41.
any suggestions and why? Thanks

I have an older High Standard that looks like new. As long as I'm careful which ammo I use, it's very accurate and totally reliable. At the time it was an inexpensive gun for Bullseye.
I still wish I had the money for a new, pristine, elegant model 41.
Do you want the gun for competition, range use or just plinking?

My only experience is with the M41 shooting Bullseye and I'd buy another in a second. That is one excellent pistol.

1SOW, I am interested in having the pistol to shoot: plinking, range and target. Holster marks have never concerned me. I am a very conscientious shooter and I do not keep even marginally accurate firearms around for very long.

The Model 41 is a tier one .22 cal and probably only a small batch manufactured and hand fitted each year.

You would be wise to purchase one. ;)

I made the move and acquired a NIB S&W Model 41 5.5" last month. It is an awesome pistol and amazing in every detail. When I first shot it a couple weeks ago, I only had to adjust the windage a few clicks to get it on target. I recently mounted an Aimpoint H-1 on it but didn't get a chance yet to sight that in. It is easy to field strip and clean compared to my Ruger Mark III Hunter.

The only problem with any of the Woodsman pistols at this late date is finding decent spare magazines.
There are plenty of these guns still shooting and the guys that have them tend to suck up any spare mags as they see them come available.
