I have been looking into buying a good bolt action deer/fun rifle for some time and saw a brand new Winchester model 70 30-06 with a 3-9x40 simmons scope for 400$. Looking over on the winchester website I see that it was the "Black Shadow" variant. I almost walked out the door with it but wanted to see what the high roaders thought. Ive been wanting to get an AK clone but seeing this deal is making me think twice.

I'd recommend getting a synthetic classic Winchester 70 instead...

The CRF is highly desired for the field and I feel there is more potential there for gunsmiths to work with...

Perhaps you could check the gun auctions and gunsamerica to pick one up slightly used... Because once the 300WSM came out or the other short mags for that matter the .30-06 is useless ;)

Winchester is still making a decent gun with some potential but like all factory rifles today, it might have problems.

I'd get it.

CRF vs. Push-Feed is a topic that can generate tons of spirited debate. In all reality, for the averaqe guy punching paper or going out into the deer woods, either/or is just fine.

Bottom line, if the rifle feels good to you when shouldered, and you like the way it looks, buy it.
