I recently bought a Smith and Wesson model 17-4. It has the 8 3/8 inch barrel. I would like to mount a scope on it. I already have a decent Swift 2x scope, but would like to find a proper mount. I have looked on the net, and it appears that I might have to drill and tap the gun. I don't really want to do this. Is there a mount that uses the stock rear sight screw holes? I also don't want to clamp anything to the gun.

I think you will have no choice but to either drill and tap or put a clamp on type mount. I had to drill and tap mine. Sorry I could not give you any other info.
