This was my last youth hunt and I just got in by 21 days. Well I went out about 3 hours before dark to sit in my treestand. The dear haven't been caught on my deer camera but I decided to try the spot anyway. I had just removed my gloves and mask because of the heat. And not five minutes later a buck walked right out behind me. I was using my NEF Huntsman and had it on the hook behind me. The deer walked about five yards behind me and watched me try to get my gun off the hook. He looked away and gave me just enough time to get the gun off the hook. As I brought up the gun he looked up. I figured I only had one chance so I just kept bringing up the gun. He watched me settle the gun on my shoulder and cock the hammer. I pulled the trigger and he jumped and took off. He ran 40 yards and started to kick. My dad and I waited 20 minutes and went to check on it. When I got there I found out it was a six point. It was bigger then I thought it was.

I also noticed that my bullet didn't pass through the animal. It was only a 12 yard shot and I was using a 295gr HP powerbelt with 80grains of triple 7. I didn't think to look for the bullet when I gutted it but I know there was no exit wound.

Sounds like an excellent hunt!

Bow season in Alabama starts October 15th. There is no special season for muzzle loaders, but the public lands I hunt have muzzle loader only days whereby you can shoot a buck and a doe per day.

Just of out curiousity, what is in your possibles bag? This is going to be my first year muzzle loading, and I'm not sure what I need.

I just carried one speedloader yesterday. I could only shoot deer for the youth hunt so I didn't worry about 3rd or 4th shots.
