I have no idea what I am doing so I don't want to make a mistake that is going to cost me money.

After doing a lot of asking I think I got the right scope Bushnell 1.5x4 32 mm

I am not sure of what kind of base to use and the type of rings (height) I should buy. I don't want to break the bank but I don't want to go cheap and regret it.

I have been shopping from this website but way too many choices!

We assume the scope you are talking about is this one.

I believe that scope has a 1" tube. So we are looking for a set of rings and bases for a 1" tube that mounts at least 16mm high (1/2 the objective, but as low as possible) on a Marlin 336.

Sound right?

Its a lever gun...

Do you want see through mounts??? In my opinion they are handy on a lever action.

See through mounts, boy I don't know. I think that might raise the scope up some. Every other thing I have read says you want them as low as possible.

So basically I need to get 1" rings?

Yes most people do not like see through mounts. You want the scope as low as possible, it's like sh$t or get off the pot if you are worried about the scope failing get quick release mounts.

Back on topic you want a base like this (simple one piece):

http://www.swfa.com/pc-11358-1738-warne-maxima-1-piece-base.aspx

Or this for more adjustment forward and back (one piece):

http://www.swfa.com/pc-11559-1777-warne-tactical-1-piece-base.aspx

Or a two piece mount:

http://www.swfa.com/pc-4585-1293-talley-2-piece-base.aspx
http://www.swfa.com/pc-11314-1695-warne-maxima-2-piece-base.aspx

And rings like this (one inch if your scope is a 1 inch tube), usually people like to get the scope as low as possible so try low rings first, depends on the size of your scope's objective lens:

http://www.swfa.com/c-529-talley-fixed-scope-1-rings.aspx
http://www.swfa.com/c-1746-warne-maxima-rings.aspx

If you want cheap try weaver:

http://www.swfa.com/c-1910-marlin.aspx
http://www.swfa.com/c-2057-weaver-grand-slam-steel-1-rings.aspx

If you are not sure about your rifle, bases and rings playing nice together give the people at SWFA a call I'm sure they can help make sure everything will fit on your 336.

Ok got a weaver base 63b, bushnell banner Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32 and high 1 " weaver rings.

From the chart it looked like I needed high because of the scope. Hopefully it all fits:)

Thanks for the help.

Good luck you may find you want lower rings though. Don't be afraid to fiddle and send stuff back if it does not work.

Well try it out and see how you like it, best way to learn is by doing it. Just keep the packaging nice a don't tighten any bolts until you are sure you are satisfied with the height. The chart is probably correct but they might be playing it safe.

Good luck H&R. That big objective lens forces you to raise the centerline of the scope up pretty high for a lever gun. Hope you can mount it low enough to be comfortable.
