Greetings, I am new to this forum but not to handloading. I'd like to hear your advice on two presses I am looking at. But first I'll give a brief history about my experience...
I began helping my Grandfather reload when I was a boy. He had a Lyman Spar-T turret press. I received that and all his other loading stuff upon his passing. I having been using it ever since. Many things have broken on it and I just kept fixing them to get me by. The time has come that I need a new one. Period. My budget is less than $200 which works out fine because I have narrowed it down to two choices in that price range: The Lyman T mag II turret and the Redding Boss single stage,
both about ~$150.
I enjoy sitting down at the loading bench and putting out quality handloads. Quantity is not of importance so considering a progressive press is not an option (and way over budget). I guess I could have just asked which is better the Redding Boss or Lyman T Mag but I thought it'd help to tell a little about me since this is my first post. Also, I mostly load .44 mag and .243 Win. Thanks fellas (and gals?).

Having a bit of trouble finding the Boss though without the "Big Boss II" stuff. I think just the Boss would suit my needs. Your thoughts are much appreciated. Kind regards,

Thomis

Have you considered the Lee Classic 4-hole Turret Press? The Classic is made of cast iron and gets great reviews. There is a newer Lee turret press that is made of aluminum and folks don't seem to like it as well.

The price would be right in line with your budget. The press itself can be found for around $90. And you can get a 'kit' with the powder measure and other accessories for well under $200. At www.kempfgunshop you can get a complete setup for one caliber for just under $200.

Good luck, I am trying to make up my mind on a press setup myself.

I just ordered and received my Kempf LCT kit and I love it. They packaged it great, and I finally ot it set -up but havent got it tuned in or tied loadin with it yet, just wanted to make room for it.

I didnt even check out the two you mentioned. But just thought id give my two cents on the lee. I orignally purchased the aluminum version without much research.. then the more i researched it, I ended up returningt hat press and got the cast version of it. Couldnt find a single thread or comment which didnt like the cast one.

I checked out many Lee brand products. I have a Lee shotshell loader which I adore <almost> as much as my wife. :) But as far as the replacement press I am looking for, Lee does not make a suitable one. Thanks again for your input.
Kind regards,
Thomis

Two thumbs up for the Lee Classic Turret press . I got one about a month ago. I am using it more and my others less. You can take out the index rod out and use it as a single stage, or put it in to speed things up. Get extra turrets for about 10 bucks , and you wont have to adjust your dies every time you change calibers. It is a well made machine.
