When you carry back-pocket, are you at all concerned with sitting on your gun? I'm perfectly comfortable with front-pocket carry, and do it all the time. But for some reason, even though I am interested in carrying a small BUG in a wallet-style holster, I have some sort of psychological hangup about constantly sitting on my gun. I am in my mid-20s, so I don't wear my pants up around my belly button. Therefore, it would seem to me that I'd have to be sitting on my gun all the time.

I'm not even sure what I think is going to happen... I think I just need someone who knows better to explain to me why it's perfectly fine. Seems like it's got to be a danger to myself, the gun, or both! Help me out here! :o

No danger with a proper holster and a good firearm with operational safeties in place. It isn't always the most comfortable thing to do, but when it is 100 degrees outside and 85% humudity, I still want to carry but I want to wear the lightest weight shorts and t-shirt I can find. So when cover garments are out, I tend to slip this Mustang in my hip pocket.

The holster is from Don Hume and very securely holds the gun, covers the triggerguard and has never failed on me over the years. Like I said, sitting on it isn't alsways the most comfortable thing to do, but I've never encountered any problems.

I carry right hip-pocket in jeans most of the time, and have for about the last three years since I got a Kel-Tec P3AT.

I slipped on the ice and fell so hard last month, it left a P3AT shaped bruse on my right azz cheek!

Didn't hurt the gun at all.

Ain't no way just setting on it in a chair is going to hurt a thing.

I can hardly stand sitting on my wallet (and believe me, it aint that full). It would seem that sitting on a gun would be unbearable.

Back pocket might be ok with some loose trousers and a flap or velcro closure. With tight jeans and open pocket I would hate to sit down and squirt my load out my back pocket. :eek:

Unless you've got buns of steel it's not an issue. You won't damage the weapon by sitting on it, but you do run the risk of a nasty bruise like rcmodel if you fall on it.

My wife's dad was carrying some .25 auto Saturday night special like that in the 70's. He leaned against a car and bang! The mother in law was quite unhappy that he bled on a new pair of white jeans. :eek:

You probably won't damage your gun but I can guarantee you will do long term damage to your spinal column unless you have one in the other pocket.

i think backpocket-carry is for old guys who pull their pants up so high that they wouldn't be sitting on the gun anyway :neener:

This is true. I carry/carried a NAA Guardian in hip pocket. About five years ago I got rear-ended by a pickup truck going full speed while I was stopped at a stoplight. Because my foot was firmly on the brake at the time, the impact pushed the gun into my lower back. I was in severe pain 24/7 for about a year until I found an orthopedic doctor who recognized my sacroilliac joint was fused. After adjusting and physical therapy I improved. However, I still can't do too much work in a bent over position until the pain and swelling sets in again.

After all this I still sometimes carry the same gun in the same position when dress or circumstances dictate. The point is, back pocket or small-of-back carry has inherent dangers to consider.

I don't worry so much about sitting on the gun, but I find it's uncomfortable to do so. For that reason, when I do carry back pocket (R9S or LCP depending upon which pants I wear), I do so only when I don't expect to do much sitting down (and there are lots of times when I can anticipate that situation).

I use a holster similar to that posted in post #2, but mine is reversed to where the flat portion of the holster is to the outside in order to break up the profile of the pistol. To anyone, it looks like a wallet if they care to look at my butt for some reason. :what:

What I like about back pocket carry is that in a robbery where I'm asked to give up my wallet, I at least have an option (depending on circumstances) to either go to the left side for my wallet, or to my right side for my "wallet".
If I go to the right side, I gain a bit of an advantage back by being able to virtually fully draw the pistol and fire before the perp could even react.

I do it sometimes, but I usually put one in each rear pocket. Better balance and another option, backup whatever.

I carry my P3AT in my back pocket a lot. I use this pocket holster http://www.artofthehide.com/ It is really no different than a wallet. If I'm going to be sitting a bunch like a movie or long drive I choose another method.

I frequently carry a Beretta Jetfire .25 caliber as a BUG in my back pocket in a typical wallter-sized holster and almost immediately forget that it's there. I'm never concerned about sitting on the gun or anything bad happening because of its carry location. It's a decent option for hot weather, when having something along for the ride is better than nothing at all.

I'm getting that problem with front pocket carry too. Still hard to tell for the layman, but I can see it shining through none the less.

I might try it with a P3AT, but I can't imagine needing or wanting to do it unless I was trying to conceal my fourth or fifth gun in shorts and a t-shirt. :eek:
