I'm looking for a good medium size gun bag that will carry about 2 pistols with magazines and cartridges. Any suggestions?

I've got one of these. They hold two pistols with 2 mags each or 2 revilvers with 2 speedloaders each depending on how you configure the foam. The center section has lots of room for gear and/or more guns. My last range trip, I had my Kimber and Baby Eagle in the sides, and G23, SR9, and LCP in the center section. The top sections that fold out also have storage for small items.

I got a cheap but sturdy soft tool bag for my range goodies. Best of all is that being non "gun" it doesn't draw any unwanted attention. It's got a great number of pockets both inside and out to help organize stuff. Cost was only $11 on sale. Heck of a deal.

Up here the pistols are supposed to be transported in a locking case. For that I've got an old red steel toolkit I'm going to use. To protect the guns themselves I'll get a few of those soft gun glove zip cases to keep them from scuffing against each other.

Before you buy three range bags, as I did, just go to Midway and buy their large range bag.
It's now on sale for $39, has lots of pockets for muffs, glasses, cleaning stuff, magazines, loaders, etc.
You'll thank me later.

Midway just sent me their two range bags, a bag without a stage insert (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=892447), and another one with the insert (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=259680).

Both are very well thought out and nicely made. Great deals for the money. My preference is the one without the insert (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=892447). I just don't usually need a bag as big as the other one, and I carry a lot to the range. I will review both range bags soon.

You will see a review of three other common range bags here (http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/search/label/Range%20Bags).

Instead of a range bag, why not a hard case, Sportlock out of (I think) Coppell, Texas has great "double sided " cases (with locks). I bought the small one (like the one your describing, 2 gun) for my son-in-law, and the larger range case which holds 4 pistols, spotting scope and accessories (for me). The small one was about $40.00 (shipped), and the large $70.00 (shipped). They show up on e-bay quite often. I just found the receipt for one, the Company's name is JND Home and Sport out of Frisco Texas. Personally i like the locking functions. Nice cases and light.

I find tool bags work too, and for the same reasons. Some have heavy duty rubber bottoms so you don't have any worries when setting them down in wet grass or snow. (Not that we have much snow in Houston :) )

I use an old Justin boot bag -- more than adequate for my purposes. It holds several guns, ammo, spare parts and magazines, a box of band aides, a water bottle, and some other small items. Also, when I leave the house, it looks like I'm on the way to the gym.

Thanks for the tip guys. I was looking at the hard cases for my large case, but I'm looking for a small to mid size on for those quick trips to the range and back. I'll check out Midway. I have no idea how I missed them. :banghead:

I like cheap Wally-World gym bags.

No crook in his right mind is gonna steal a gym bag that might be full of stinky socks & jocks.

Another vote for Midway. Best range bag value on the market.

I don't own one, but I too cast my vote for the range bag from Midway~!

I recently had the opportunity to examine one, and it is a very nice
bag; capable of holding a lot of equipment. :scrutiny: ;) :D

you can fit 2-3 pistol cases, several boxes of ammo, ear protection in it.
