I have searched and found a few people with the same problem. I just got my classic turret press in today and was trying to set it up. First rattle out of the box the damn primer arm hits the shell holder when going through the motion. I hate that my very first experience trying to get into reloading is a bad one. Both the small and the large arms do it. I have read where if the arm is not in line etc, to line it up. I have did that and no help. The only way I see to fix it is to somehow add some metal to where the primer arm hits the frame to get it to start inward earlier so it will clear, or to shim the shellplate holder area up a little higher so it will clear the arm. It really irks me I have to work on a brand new press, but I cant see sending it all back in and waiting on another. Anyone have a suggestion?
thanks
matt

Matt: Sorry you are having trouble with your press. I have a Classic and love it, and have not had any problems. I also helped set up my brother with his classic press this Xmas and no problems.
Now to try and answer your question. First, look down into the ram and check that the metal rod that the primer arms pivot on does not have some obstruction. Second look to see that the primer cup that the primer sets in is working correctly by depressing the cup on its spring. Lastly, I would call Lee in the morning. They are great people and will be happy to try and walk you through some additional fixes, and it not right will immediately ship out new parts.
Let us know what the outcome is, in any case. Stick with it, and it will all work out.

i fixed it already, i found a post where someone recommended putting a dab of hot glue on the frame so it would index the arm a little faster. Worked like a charm, blob of hot glue on a brand new press ..lovely

Welcome to reloading redbandit, and welcome to the Lee Classic Turret Press. Sorry to hear of your problem with the primer arm. Some presses have had that problem, other owners won't know what you are talking about. I have the same problem and dealt with it differently: I put my index finger under the primer lever and ease it forward as I'm moving the arm up. It makes me feel like I have my finger on the pulse so to speak. I could have spent 2 or 3 times more for a press that doesn't have this problem, but I bought another firearm instead. You might also have a problem with the Safety Primes being just a tad too low to line up vertiacally with the primer cup. A metal washer under the mount will fix this if the problem ever arises.
I've been using my Lee for right at a year now with no other concerns and built plenty of very decent ammo with it. I'm currently in the process of setting up my 3rd caliber. The cost is nominal, just the dies and another 4-hole turret as everything else is already in place. Good luck to you. I'm savin' the Spot O'glue as my ace-in-the-hole but I doubt I'll bother.

Mine was sticking after seating the primer, so I ran a fine file across the top of the primer cup. Fixed..

I had that problem, but decided I didn't want to use the indexing feature anyway. I prefer batch processing. I feel like I go faster doing it this way, and I pay more attention and can check all of my powder measures much easier. It's good to know that if I start indexing, I just need a dab of hot glue.

Pleae don't take this the wrong way, but I can't understand why you guys would attempt to fix a factory defect without contacting Lee. I have this same press set up and to me a low price does not excuse sloppy workmanship. I would send the primer arms back and get some that are shaped correctly...but that's just me. How is Lee going to identify a possible problem if folks just accept it without telling them?
