Greetings,

I just received 98 .308 British military surplus from Samco (They made a mistake in my order. It is not even the right invoice with the package...)

Anyway, I have two questions:
1 - There are quite a few of those cartridge with the primer surface and sometimes all the back of the cartridge with some sort of black soth on it. I am assuming this is corrosion. Will it make the cartridge unsafe or unfirable?

2 - How do I know it is ROF and not POF surplus? Here arew the cartridge headstamps I see:
K-31 then 7 at the opposite (12 o'clock and 6 o'clock)
K41 then VII at the opposite and 7-4o at 3 o'clock

Thank you

The headstamps you are mentioning sound like .303, not .308, headstamps.

POF .303 says "POF".

If .303, my understanding is that you have ammo made by Kynoch in the UK, with 1931 and 1941 dates.

The VII indicates mark VII ball.

Greetings,

Oups...My bad...I meant 303 Brit.

Is it safe to shoot the ones with the blach "sothj" on the primer and the back of the cartridge? I found out also 4-5 cartridges with the bullet completely black of that "soth".

I tried to wipe it out with a wet cloth. It stained the cloth but it is still black.

Thank you

I though ROF was for Royal Ordnance Factory. Or actually Fazalarky or something like that.
