I have a Pietta 1860 Army .44 and the R&D drop in cylinder I have will not fully cock. It will go to half cock but when I attempt to fully cock it, it will not go all the way back and it jams and will not go back to half cock. Any solutions?

I think any extra cylinder you buy has to be adjusted specifically for your gun. It's normal since each gun is still different, although they're mass-produced nowadays.

Just bring the whole thing to your gunsmith, he'll adjust your cylinder.

Is the R&D binding or real close to the forcing cone...this is common I had to kiss my SS one for the ROA with crocus cloth lapping the forward end of the cylinder on a flat smooth surface. (like thick glass or a good table top) It don't take much at all. Use a figure "8" motion don't press too hard.

If it ain't the cylinder length it could be the bolt is too wide for the cylinder slot. Only other thing I could remotely think of is the tip of the hand, Burred or a hair long...which I doubt but it's worth a mention. Let us know how it turns out.

Did you try to remove the backstrap to allow the hammer coking further for a test?
I had to gring the backstrap on some colt to allow more recoil for the hammer........
In other respect, Kirst 1860 cylinder for Pietta has a diameter 0.5mm larger than percussion cylinder : hence the whole timing is to be redone. Check yours on R§D...

R & D cylinder for sure is the problem. It can be fixed most of the time. Not going in to battery seems like there is a problem on the back of the cylinder with the teeth not lining up to the timing. if you take your other cylinder and hold them back to back the tips should touch each other exactly. then when you put tip to the back of the cylinder they should be flush. if not then there is the problem. A good gunsmith would be able to file down the teeth to the correct specifications and correct the timing. However its going to cost you. probably around 60.00. You may want to contact R&D cylinder.
