this seems liek a dumb question... but as anyone ever done this in an R&D pietta 1858 conversion for defensive purposes? It doesnt seem like it would harm the gun as the bullets are not jacketed and they are soft. The rounds are still subsonic and low pressure too... any thoughts?

There ain't no dumb questions, jus' those that aren't asked.
I don't have a Coversion for my Rems, (Yet) but I do for my ROAs.
I keep .45 Schofield 230gr flat tip round nose or 255gr .45 Colt Black Powder or Cowboy smokeless loads in mine for home defence. (all I use is soft pure lead) Soft lead will expand bigger than a nickel but no quite a quarter.
A Rem when loaded for the same purpose has 30gr fffg Black Powder in them.
The Flash Bang effect like SWAT uses with grenades happens all at once with a BP load as a very good detourent or the second round will end it all.
Can't see where it would hurt it...but why spend that Silvertip money when lead has been doin' it for Centuries. Save um for four .45 Auto.
