I know you guys are from all over the country and or world, but I see all this hunting going on and I was wondering if it's ALL on public land, hunting leases, off the highway. So if you don't mind, could some of you maybe list:
A) What State you're in.
B) Public land, Private, Hunting Lease or wherever you hunt.
C) And what animals.

I'm in Texas and only have access to Public hunting lands and the 2 I've been to have been jokes. One was just a mowed field and the other seemed devoid of life. Did hear there were Feral Hogs there but they had to be taken with a bow.

I am SERIOUSLY considering going to another state for a month, just to get a @$$#@!~! squirrel! :banghead:

I hunt on my own land in Arkansas, but there are plenty of hunting lands and national forest lands in this state.

I have a lot of my own land to hunt in northern Idaho. However, there is a gazillion acres of state land here too. And state land here is untouched, wild, etc.

I don't hunt varmints on a regular basis. If they present themselves while I'm hunting larger game. =Dead Doggie.

Over the years... Blacktail, Whitetail, Mule Deer. Black Bear. Elk. Moufalon. Grouse.

Mostly our National Forests, but I've hunted a sliver of private land on occasion. From sea level to the alpines. Logging areas to preserved wilderness. Roaded, road closure and places without roads. I've never hunted from tree stand, shooting house, or permanent blind. Still hunt or spot and stalk. Never hunted with dogs or over bait. I don't particularly hunt farm land but will hunt the woods adjacent to farms.

In Nebraska most and best hunting opportunites are on private lands by permission or lease.

However, public lands offer plenty good opportunity if you get a way from the higher populated areas.

I hunt both....at any given time.

A) Arkansas
B and C) Deer hunting is on a lease in Saline County; small game hunting is mostly on public land closer to my house--mostly in the Ouachita National Forest. As Vern said there is a ton of public land in Arkansas. The rules and regs vary a bit, and mostly you have the land to yourself. I have noticed a lot more recreational activity in places that I normally had to myself. The other day I came across five hikers, and I am not sure what they thought about "the man with a .22 rifle in his hands and a pistol on his hip."
Most of my duck hunting is on private land owned by a farmer although I have been to some overcrowded WMAs as well.

Nebraska? I didn't know you could even have a loaded gun in Nebraska. Okay, I'm exagerating a little, but I drive around Nebraska. I won't even go to Cabella's because it is in Nebraska and it isn't far from where I live in Wyoming.

To answer the original question, I hunt and shooting on public land of which there is plenty to go around except for in the fall when all the non-residents flood into our state to hunt. I stay out of the woods then. Too many easterners shooting horses to fill their elk tags and the like.

I have some of my own hunting land and I live 2 miles from 2000 acres of conservation ground. It is blackpowder and bow only for deer, which is a Godsend for me.

I am a rifle hunter first and foremost, so don't take this the wrong way, but those rules keep the beer swilling once a year hunters out of the place. I can squirrel, rabbit and deer hunt (bow) in peace. It is lovely. Reclaimed coal strip mine. Lots of pits full of fish. Lots of rugged terrain. Teeming with game.

Man, I smell what you're steppin in - it can be tough if you don't have the ability to afford a lease. Your strategy is gonna have to be either make more money and get on a lease (there are plenty of them out there, and plenty of places to go look for them advertised, but they are expensive), or move to a state (or country) with more public hunting lands. Siberia has a lot of it, in my understanding. Seriously, look at the wide open places - Wyo, MT, NV, AK, ND, SD, etc.

I hunt in SW Virginia, most of it (pushing probably 500 acres) is land I have permission to hunt on. It's all Christmas trees, so the farmers are more than happy to let me shoot as many as I want.

Some land is my uncle's. Dense woods and a good drive away, I don't hunt there often.

Deer, turkey, groundhog, squirrel, rabbits, bobcats, coyote, and occasionally a bear or mountain lion have been present on the lands around where I hunt.

Here is AZ I hunt exclusively on public land. I hunt deer, elk, squirrells, javelina, rabbits, quail, dove and predators (lion, coyote, fox, badger and bobcat). I don't think I could live in a state without adequate public hunting land. If you come out to AZ let me know, rabbits, coyotes and foxes can be hunted year round.

Oregon is around 46% public land, some is leased for livestock grazing which still remains public land.

I hunt in South Texas on private land. Some places can be very expensive and you would be lucky to find someplace cheap.

It's tough to hunt in Texas without paying to be on a lease.

Fifty years ago FLorida had a LOT of open land, both in WMA's as well as property that just simply wasn't posted.

Rapid growth and development has changed most of that. Plus, the fact that a lot of the major landholding timber co's have discovered a reliable cash cow in hunting leases has removed a lot of property from the WMA system....as an example, the nearest to me was in excess of 110,000 way back then.........now you're scrapin' by with only 12, and that also brought a lot of petty regulations that just took a lot of the fun out of the game. Don't know what leases are going for in other states, but hereabouts the usual is roughly 1100 up....mostly up. Anything cheaper is really too small to fool with unless you are a dedicated archery hunter.

I usually hunt Ntl. Forest land, but I limit my use to mid week and avoid as many folks as I can. At least I can still hunt the way I want, run my dogs, and even occasionally kill a good buck, still, it is in no fashion what it used to be.

Just as an aside, I gotta say that I blame our GFC for an awful lot of the closures in this State.....Substantially that Agency has really managed to drop the ball by simply doing nothing to assure access. I truly think that they don't give a damn, after all more privately controlled leased property means less "strain" on them.....Hell, Florida's GFC totally fails to account for any harvest data other than on WMA's and even then, the reporting system is so ineptly structured as to be unenforcable...........So it goes...........

Hey Thanks a bunch guys! gives me hope I may yet be able to hunt. I usually work about 6 months and take 6 months off and I can really stay anywhere in the country as I'm a full time RVer to boot.:D
