have been meaning to ask this...

Finally decided to do it.
Why the wait? Well, NFA questions out of the blue are generally regarded with suspicion (as they should be! So reminds me my alter ego, Agent Schmuckatelli)

Anyway...

I have very few desires in the NFA/Class 3 area, but i do have one persistent one: suppressed 10/22. Maybe even a Norell FA suppressed 10/22, but at least suppressed.

i am thinking a 4.5 inch barrel with long supressor or else an integrally suppressed barrel.

Now, if I go with the intergal suppressor can I switch out barrels without violating any laws?

Ex. I have one 10/22 receiver, and the integrally suppressed bbl, a long 22' barrel, and a bull target barrel. (I don't but fo rsake of the question).
And I take the bull bbl off and attatch the suppressed. Is that OK with Agent Schmuckatelli?

Is it the integral supressor or the WHOLE 10/22 that is registered? Remember, the suppressor never leaves the barrel. SO a switch-out would involve switching the barrel as well.

Can I put the integral supressor on a second 10/22 receiver and be OK with Agent S?

Or am I limited to the receiver/bbl/supressor combo as issued?

Any facets I am missing?

thanks,
C-

I would write and ask ATF, so's you have something in writing from the guys that could bust you rather than relying on an internet board (albeit an outstanding one) for advice on such matters.

cpil, are you buying a suppressor or the firearm? What does (would) your Form 4 say?

My understanding is the license / tax applies specifically to the Supressor itself, installed or not. License and buy it, put it on any .22 bbl you can legally modify to accept it.
But I could be completely wrong. Get it in writing from the people legally entitled to hurt you, from at least two different sources, and have at it.

For now, i guess I'd be buying the suppressor- that is, the integrally suppressed barrel.

or else having my own 10/22 (have to get another one...) modified with integral suppression.

Any help?

There was a dealer selling suppressed firearms, I think at the gunshow this weekend. That`s how much I paid attention. Now you have my curiosity piqued. Hopefully I`ll run into him at the fairgrounds next month so I can satisfy my curiosity.:scrutiny:

Do you trust agent Schmuckatelli to tell you the truth?

IIRC, if you get a full auto receiver, and the suppressor can get swapped out, you gotta buy two stamps.

Agent Schmuckatelli has NEVER lied to anyone on this board! Re-read his posts and you'll see the baldfaced truth in them!!!

Sure, i know if I get a FA receiver it is a separate 200 dollar fee, and i know the receiver, if post-ban, has to be legal to add the integral supp/bbl combo onto- but it will be since it wil be the only modification.
Thus it will have a detatchable mag, and suppressor, but that's it.

but i want to know if the combo can be moved to another semi-auto receiver without violating any laws.

And its not that Schmuck (as he is occasionally known) will lie to us, its his komrades who will pen the written response I am worried about!
