Got a FREE gun!

I went to NC over the weekend and was surprised to be presented a gift from my dad. He told me that he had just purchased a new Rossi .357 snubbie as a daily carry gun and had no use for his other pistol, a Colt M1991A1 Compact. He then GAVE me the Colt and wouldn't take a penny for it. He bought it new in '98 and it only has about 200-300 rounds through it. The only flaw I have found is that one of the white dots on the rear sight has fallen out. I think I can manage..:p

He has the original warranty card and all paperwork in the case and it shows he paid $465.00 for it in '98. Also came with a Wilson IWB leather holster. This makes my 2nd M1911A1-pattern gun. This is my second firearm acquisition in a week..I think I'm getting spoiled.

Wow! Very cool.

Did he ever even carry it? My 1991A1 that has been carried for a couple-three years is pretty rough in comparison.

One of the disadvantages of not having children is that you've got no one to give guns to.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Yes, my dad is a real cool cucumber when it comes to giving of himself. He carried this gun off and on, but not on a regular basis, so the finish shows almost no wear. He just never got comfortable carrying a 1911-pattern gun cocked and locked so this gun spent most of it's time in the nightstand drawer. And as long as I get guns for free, my wife couldn't care how many I have!:D

Congrats. Fortunate that you two have an relationship ,and one that includes guns.

I'm one of those whom has no kids, and what family save one, have pretty much gone either "on the fence" to completely anti. Meaning -save one, member, I have no family. I expect nothing passed to me, mine are scheduled to go to non-family pro 2A enthusiasts...

No problem, StandingWolf. I can help you out there. I'll send you a list of my kid's names, and you can just give your stuff to them. 'Course, they're kinda young, so I'll have to supervise a lot, but hey, anything to help a buddy, right?

When can we expect shipment?

I am very glad that my sons are into guns. I have not sold a gun in a long time! They sweep them up, from a S&W Victory to a S&W625, they love them all.
The 625 went to my son when he was about 9 years old- and he could shoot it!

Good deal on ya, congrats. I've got one just like that, except I've swapped out the grips for a Colt wrap-around that has the silver prancing pony medallions in it, and I've gotten 4 Wilson Combat mags for it. My factory mags were not 100% reliable, but the Wilsons are: 3000+ rounds with no malfunctions using them.

I even got mine the same year your dad did, as a tax refund gift to myself. :)

I have 3 Colts. One is a few nicely finished mid-80s government model. Good gun. The second is a stainless Officer's ACP. Also nice. The third was a 1991A1 Commander. This gun is more accurate than either of my other two pieces. I paid just over half what the government cost for it and it was worth every penny. I like it alot. Even though it is parkerized, the finish doesn't seem to wear very much. These guns seem to be like the S&W value line. Same quality, just not as nicely finished.

I'm not a very superstitious person, but for whatever reason, I've always thought of it as bad luck to take a weapon without giving something for it... Guns or knives.

But still... nice after Christmas, pre-New Year gift!

Heck... I'd be happy with just the holster... :p

It wasn't an "after Christmas, pre-New Year gift". This all happened back in September.
