? For MD residents in the know...

In the back of my mind I'm hankering to try/own a CZ-75B. This would be my first purchase in years and my first auto shucker in a handgun.
I have a (probably reasonable) fear that the pistol can no longer be sold new in Maryland due to the imbedded lock requirement for new pistols.
Could someone in the "know" confirm/deny this for me?
Also as a sidebar..(and I'm no lawyer) I was trying to make sense of the state's requirements for private purchases. I'm again hoping that "face to face purchases" are still legal within the state and FFL involvement is not required between consenting adults...
Please, tell me it's not _all_ bad news.
Many thanks in advance
Howard

Correct. That is unless it's a NIB that was made before 12-31-02. Any handgun be it SA, DA/SA, DOA, or Revolver must have a functioning internal lock at the time of sale. Currently the only new handguns that I am aware of that are allowed to be sold in Maryland are Taurus, S&W Revolvers, Walter P22, Glocks, H&K, Springfield (or other 1911's fitted with Springfields ILS), Styer, and Bersa

To do a face to face leaglly you need to go to the State Police. They charge $10 (check or money order only) to fill out the paper work. You must have the gun for them to verify the serial number, and the same 7 day waiting period applys. Some FFL's will do the transfer for you but they will charge a fee.
Good Luck in your search for a CZ, I'm hopping to find one for myself one day!

Thanks Jeep for the "Instant" reply:

This would seem a bit problematic. Does MSP hold the handgun for the waiting period or do they trust the (non FFL) seller to do so?

i have found a pre "ban" CZ 97 in MD
and i ain't telling where its residing!
A used 75B might be located at a gunshow.
You could also transfer into the state, a used pre 2003 gun.
;)
i bought a 75B, 2 weeks before the ballistic fingerprint "ban"
There was an attempt in Annapolis last winter to repeal the ballistic fingerprint and internal lock requirement. Like the rest of the pro and anti gun bills they died in a drawer.

Handgun Safety Devices - Repeal House: Judiciary
Repeals the prohibition against a dealer selling, offering for sale, renting, or transferring in the State specified handguns unless the handguns are equipped with an external safety lock or an integrated mechanical safety device; and repeals requirements relating to the duties of the Handgun Roster Board connected with personalized handgun technology. This bill would repeal all of Public Safety Section 5-132 and allow new handguns to return to Maryland.

They trust the non FFL seller to hold it. Then they mail the seller the paper work which you(the buyer) must sign and the seller has to mail it back with in 7 days.

I bought a NIB Ruger P97 in May 2003. It was manufactured in 8/01.
Pretty much anything involving handguns here has some contact with the MSP. I love how they stamp the forms "NOT DISAPPROVED".

You shouldn't have any problem finding a CZ 75B if you want just the standard B model (the SA, 85 Combat, P01, 97B, 83, and other lower volume and newer models may be a problem). The law requires the locks, not on all new guns sold but on all guns made after Jan 1, 2003. CZ is easy to figure out as they have the manufacture year on the gun. Last I saw, most of the current crop of CZ 75Bs were made in '99 or '00. I figure there will be MD legal CZ 75Bs for one or two more years (again, if you want just the basic B model). In fact, since the new law I've noticed dealers that didn't used to stock CZs have started adding CZ 75s and CZ 40s (including one dealer that used to badmouth CZs).
