I've been reading the old posts but haven't quite figured it out, so here's my question:

I have the 870 Express HD 12 gauge with the factory mag extension and barrel clamp. Obviously I can't use the magazine cap as a swivel point. I have read about people using the clamp to attach the front end of the sling.

What products do people recommend? Have people used this product? http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=117626

Also, the instructions to this http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=611233(which I purchased mistakenly) recommend placing the rear swivel 2-2.5 inches from the buttplate or recoil pad. Do they mean the end of the pad, or where the pad meets the end of the stock? I really like the design of their swivels.

Thanks!

Or, drill and tap the clamp for this.

I found some more interesting items. Has anyone used the GG&G attachment point? http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=78&parents=60,61

If you use this, can you ditch the barrel/extension tube clamp and this item stabilizes the two as well as serving as an attachment point?

The clamp I use uses a sling swivel as the screw that holds the clamp in place. I think it's a choate brand.

See the picture at http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_870/model_870_express_synthetic_7-round.asp .

There should be a swivel stud in the bottom of the barrel clamp- I know some of the HDs were made without this swivel stud in place. Call Remington and see if you can get a factory clamp that has the swivel stud mounted in the proper location. (1-800-243-9700)

You really do need a clamp on a two-round extension- not because the extension is weak, but because the threads on the end of the magazine tube are thin and can be damaged with sufficient impact that is leveraged by the magazine extension. The C type side sling mounts don't brace the extension to the barrel adequately to prevent damage IMHO.

YMMV of course.

I have some side sling swivel stud screws that fits the factory mag clamp with no mods needed. It replaces the mag clamp screw. I will send you one for the cost of shipping.

Shoot me an email if you want one.

Thank you so much! Your offer exemplifies what makes THR a special place, where people really help each other out.

I sent Remington an email last night, and if they can't/won't help out, I will definitely take you up on the offer!

Thanks!

Sorry to stomp on the thread, but I have this same shotgun with the same problem. When the gun is afield I remove the mag extension and use a mag cap that has a swivel on it. I've also wondered which of the several products offered for this would work best.

I spoke with someone helpful at Remington today who checked the serial # on the gun and is sending out an updated barrel band clamp with the swivel stud attached.

Problem solved. Also, Landlocked Pirate wrote back to clarify that he attached the rear swivel 2.25 inches into the 870 Synthetic Buttstock measured from the end of the stock itself, NOT from the end of the recoil pad

Hopefully other people similarly situated find this helpful in the future!
