Trap/skeet shooters - ammo choice

What ammo do you fella's use?
Remington SPS? Winchester?
I bought 2 of the bulk Winchester 100 round value pack - but they don't cycle in my 1100 reliably... the remington SPS have worked flawlessly though. Good thing I have a pump for the bulk Winchester... anyhow that being said what choice of target ammo do you guys use?

I use a handload consisting of either a Winchester AA or a Remington STS hull, a WW gray wad or Claybuster equivalent, 7/8 oz of hard shot and either red dot or clays powder to produce 1250-1300 fps. I use this load for singles, short handicap and for the first shot in doubles, and it seems to work well for me.

I too reload, and shoot a 7/8 oz. load at 1200 fps for skeet. Before I reloaded, I used Winchester AA shells in the lightest load I could find which was usually their 1 oz. Xtra Light load. Clays don't require alot of shot, or require really high velocity's, and your shoulder will appreciate light loads.

If you bought bulk Winchester Universals, yeah, they tend to be sized wrong, and they won't work well in 1100s or even 870s if you can believe that.
The Remington Sport Load bulk value pack works great -- and reloads just like STS. The hulls aren't good for 10 loads, maybe 7, but they're a lot cheaper (free at the range, usually). If shooting STS gives you a psychological edge in competition, go for it. But I haven't seen any difference in my broken targets between Sport Loads, Gun Club, and STS.
I do like STS 6% hard shot if I reload, but I don't think it makes THAT much difference in the real world. Certainly not in Skeet -- it's probably worth paying extra for far-handicap Trap, for long-range patterns, but not for Skeet, or for Trap from 22 forward. Blasphemy, I know, but a broken bird is a broken bird.:) The STS shot is like ball bearings. Once I spent a couple of hours chasing the things around a hardwood floor when I dumped some -- and there were still pellets under things a year or two later.
Also, bulk Federals are dirtier than the Sport Loads, but cheaper, too. They work fine in an 1100 -- with the caveat that you'll have to clean it a bit more, and personally I don't love cleaning my 1100.:)
Anyway, I used to reload, but lately the reloader is on a shelf in the closet. Good luck finding components for less than bulk Remington Sport Load 12 Gauge ammo.
There are several reasons to reload: 28 Gauge, low-recoil (e.g. 7/8 oz. or 24 gram 12 Gauge loads you can't buy at the store), and maybe some high-volume hunting.
It is not economical to reload standard 12 Gauge ammo at this time. That could change, but right now, I'd buy Sport Loads and just go shoot.

I've been using the federal, winchester and remington bulk packs for a good day at the skeet range. Shoots soft enough and all work reliably in my SG.

I only shoot Winchester AA Super Handicap. 1 1/8 oz at 1250 FPS # 7 1/2's.

i reload winchester AA hulls exclusively. i load 1 oz of #8 shot. i load it to shoot 1200 fps. plenty fast enough for trap, skeet and some sporting clays. also, good for dove hunting. still, soft recoiling. works my beretta 390 just fine.
good luck,
skeet

I'm the opposite of PA4476 above -- I only shoot Winchester super-light or light target loads. :o Probably nothing of use for you, if you actually want your 1100 to cycle.
