The V16 is 4-16X42 and the V24 is 6-24x42. I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these. In a vacuum, I think the V16 is what I need. I like the 4x on the low end and don't think I need the 24x on the high end.

My question, however, is whether the V24 will have better visual quality set on 16x than the V16 will at 16x, which is its max magnification?

Seems to me, every variable I own is pretty poor when cranked to its max, so I'm wondering whether a higher power scope cranked not so far would perform better. I don't have variable scopes in the same brand to test this theory.

This scope will go on a Savage 93FVSS (22wmr) and be used for paper, small varmints and general plinking probably less than 150yds. I have 17's and 223's for longer work.

I use my V16 on 12 to 14. Never thought much about visual quality on max, but that could be why I like the lower settings. I target shoot and do a little squirrel hunting using a .22 Brno 2-E.
