I just picked up a Mossberg 500A in a gun sock at a pawn shop this weekend for $80. It's not beautiful, but certainly not in bad shape at all. Action is smooth cycles rounds good, and just needs a bit of clean up. I haven't had a chance to fire it yet so maybe I am in for a surprise yet. :D

I am not a Mossberg officianato or necessarily a fan, but any working pump gun for $80 can't be bad. Let us know how it turns out!

80 bucks for a 500 is hard to beat! Even if it don't look the greatest, it's still a great gun. Good job

Yeah it's not in too bad of shape. What's even better is I am supposed to be picking up a Remington 1100 with a 30" Trap Barrel, in really nice shape for $225-$250!

Thats a deal. Even if the furniture is in bad shape, thats easy enough to replace for $35-45, and still be way ahead of the same.

Eighty bucks is a heck of a deal on a Mossberg 500!

Hate to be the one to burst your bubble but the mdl. 500 is a pretty generic gun and as such, resale value is pretty low. I mean, you can get one brand new for $209. However, if this gun was, in fact, new, congrats, but it doesn't sound like it was.

You'd be the only one, at that price. $80 is a steal. Well done.

Well, if you can find me a good condition, functioning 500A for 80 bucks...I'll take two please
Seriously, why pay 209 when you don't have to?

Congrats on the new baby!

Great deal! Even if it doesn't shoot worth a darn, you could probably part it out and get your investment back.

Well I already bought a 28" ported, vented rib accu-choke barrel with mid bead and hi viz bead, with 4 chokes for the 500 for $60. Might sell the 28" that came with it, I'm not sure yet. The original barrel was in just fine shape, I just prefer vented rib barrels.

Dang nice find, good looking gun for $80, id say a good buy at $150 because I have never seen a NIB 500 anywhere near $200, heck id pay $200 for a decent used one.

It has a few scratches on the other side of the reciever, and some scratches in the wood, and a very light patch of surface rust on the bolt, that can be polished right up in minutes. But other than that it is good to go!

DUDE!! What's to clean up!!??? Eighty bucks for that sweet hunk of steel is awful good. The 500a is to Mossberg as the 870 is to Remington . It is agood shotgun that can be accessorized and can be employed for use to defend your home and give a good account of itself afield. NIce Find.

I don't know if it's the redneck in me, but I see that original 28" barrel losing 9" or so. I've never tried garage gun smithing, but there's got to be a youtube instructional video on it:)

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking.
$140 bucks total in a 500 with 28" vent rib barrel and four choke tubes plus a 18" HD barrel.....unreal.
testar77, you got an exceptional deal on that package.
Why can't I find such bargains?

Thanks all! I don't run across deals like that too often. The Mossberg was a really good deal but I think I am even happier about the 1100 in the other thread!

Be happy with your Benelli!

Boy, I'd've had straight A's throughout my entire life had my parents done that for me. Good for him, and smart idea. Maybe when I've got some little ones running around I'll try something like that.

So update: I tore it all the way down (short of taking apart the trigger group) and cleaned it all up, she cleans up pretty dang good. Action is nice and smooth, everything seems to work perfectly! So get this I ordered a new mag tube spring for it before I tore it down because something was sliding around in there and when you pushed a shell in there you could tell that there was no tension there. SO I get the spring in the mail and head down to tear her apart, and here is what I found. To compensate for the fact that it didn't have a limiting plug in it, he used a shorter spring, a hacked off plug from some other shotgun, 2 LIVE shotgun shells...:what: (yes I said LIVE but he at least turned them primer to primer?), and a cut off peice of pencil:confused: so that is what he came up with to suffice as a limiting plug instead of just buying one  So after cleaning all that mess up and putting the CORRECT spring in it, she works like a charm! I do need to find a plug though just in case I decide to hunt waterfowl with it.

Did I miss something, or have I had one to many. I've been to just about every pawn shop, and gun store in Florida and every gun site on the net and I have never seen a NIB Mossberg for $209 or have I ever seen a used one for $90. Where do you guys buy these $90 Mossberg pumps, I'll up there this weekend and buy a dozen are so.

Actually it was $80, but if you include the cost of the new magtube spring I bought then I guess it's close to $90 :D

I thought my other purchase was even a better deal than this one see link below

His previous reward for good grades at the end of last school year was a pretty decent Laptop computer. And upgrading his hunting rifle at Christmas was a direct relation to his previous term grades.

Me too.

Get yourself a nice HD barrel out of the deal and leave it on the gun when you aren't shooting it (you have to take the long barrel off to clean it anyway so it's not even an inconvenience)

The local Wal Mart here (North Florida) has them for $209. I recently bought a 500C (20 Gauge) for that price. It came with three choke tubes and a wrench.
The 500A (12 Gauge) is the same price, but I already have several of them.....

Once or twice a month I make the rounds going to pawn shops to see if they have any parts guns. Lots of pawn shops have guns that need repairs. I am not a gunsmith but I am a parts replacer. I have bought several 500s for $25-50 that just needed a good cleaning or a minor part replaced.

I bought one that had been in a car wreck in which the barrel was bent to a 45 degree angle. The receiver and all the other parts were OK. The magazine tube needed some correcting but it came out good. I gave the shop $25 for it. I had 4 or 5 parts 500s at the time so I had the means of replacing the barrel and moving it. Sometimes you can get a 500 or an 870 with minor problems for $50 or so. I've pulled the barrels and got my money back and some extra.

I'm not bashful about asking for parts guns. It has made me a few dollars as the barrels and stocks can be sold for more than the gun cost. I have no problem moving the parts. I'm a bit fortunate that I have a FFL that does not charge me anything for transfers. He owns the hardware store where I buy my hardware. He has a good business because in this hunting/shooting area, he charges nothing to anyone for transfers. He has a loyal customer base.
