New scope opinion

I recently purchased a new rifle (Weatherby Vanguard 30.06) and am in the market for a new scope. I have had many Leupolds over the years, but think I may want to go a different direction for my new rifle. I will use this rifle for hunting (white tail, mulies, elk) primarily. I hunt in areas where you might not take a shot over 100 yards to those where 300+ yard shots are the norm. I don't mind spending $1,000+, but prefer to stay close to that amount, if possible. Any advice is appreciated.

Look at the Zeiss Conquests or the the Sightron SIII they are the best scopes under $1000 these days. The new Leupold VX-3's are supposed to offer a lot of bang for the buck also.
