I've YET to find a Stoeger dealer that carries this model/gauge!

Ticking me off BIG TIME!

I want to handle it before I go ahead and purchase, and that's kind of hard to do when no one carries the damned thing! :cuss:

You'd think that Stoeger would be just a tad bit more helpful...

Their response, when I told them that I was having problems finding a dealer in the DC metro area that carried the 28 Uplander?

Sent me a link for the list of authorized dealers in the DC metro area.

:cuss:holes!

I have a Stoeger Uplander in 12 ga. If the 28 is as nice as the 12, it ought to be a great gun. Mine has chrome barrels with relieved type forcing cones and shoots exactly where I point it. The finish on the stock is a bit soft but other than that, I can't find anything wrong with it. I bought it for a beater gun, but it's the one I take on all my outings now.

Mike, still no luck, that kind of response from them?...arrghh!!

I did check locally, none around here either. A few Bakail (sp?) " Stoegers-can order one though"...type response. Last Stoeger I handled was nice, but man I hate to recommend stuff to people, recommend a good barber and that'd be the day he screws up big time...Murphy's Law and all that.

Maybe they are pulling a "<insert brand name here>" get the hype out, see the market response, then mfg the gun?

Reverse psychology, tohellwithstoeger, be interested in another brand...Stoegers will appear from the woodwork.

Dang Mike, I was sure by now you had one and awaiting your review.

sigh...

I'd be more than happy to take a look at a Baikal 28 gauge.

IF I could find one to HANDLE!

This is a speciality item as far as I'm concerned, being bought for the sole purpose of range shooting, and I want to be absolutely sure that I'm happy with the way it handles before I toss down my money on it.

Quite frankly, though, the finish I've seen on the 12-gauge Baikals has not really inspired a lot of confidence.

The Stoegers I've seen have been a lot nicer.

I'm just about to the point where I'm going to say to hell with it and get a Uplander in 20 gauge. They handle well, I could probably get interchangable choke tubes, and lord knows they're not so hard to find.

Holy crap!

I just checked Stoeger's website again on the Uplander...

They've added a 16 gauge to the line up!

Hum....

Hum....

Hell. It will probably be harder to find than the stupid 28.

Patience, Mike. All things come in time.

A small note...

If there's any ammo out there harder to find than 28 gauge, it's 16 gauge. In thy shoes, I'd get a light 20 gauge and a loader, making up 3/4 oz loads and giggling mightily as you trounce me again with it.

The wife has her eye on a Stoeger 28ga at our favorite gunshop. It handles quick and feels good, but the wood to metal fit is pretty bad. But at $295, the price is right. Only problem I see, is I'm still using a Lee Load All, and they don't make a 28ga conversion for it. I guess they figure anyone who can afford a nice 28 can afford a better reloader.

Okie,

I was really surprised to find out that Lee doesn't make a 28-gauge loader. You'd think with it's steady popularity over the past couple of years that it would be worth their time to at least make a Load All for it.

I'm afraid it's going to come down to my getting a 20-gauge, Dave, but I don't WANT a 20-gauge!

I WANT a 28-gauge!

I don't want an over-under 28-gauge, I want a SxS 28-gauge?

Is that too much to ask?

Apparently so... :)

the local walmart has more 16 gauge than 12.

Andrew, that is an anomaly of major import. Maybe all the 12 gauge fodder left before dove season.

Last time I was in the local Dick's, the aptly named sporting goods chain store, total 16 gauge ammo was maybe 20 boxes of field loads, 3 kinds of slugs, IIRC, and one lonely stack of 1 Buck.

Gee Mike , what gun god did you upset...tried incense, maybe a sacrifice is due ? ;)

Ok, one can accept using a Mec reloader for 28 ga., heck someone may upgrade to a progressive, and you can get a deal on aMec single stage. But for goodness sakes, there has to be a Stoeger SXS in 28 ga. I think it is a great choice, wouldn't mind one myself.

Hold your ground Mike, accept no substitutes, compromise is no option. Maybe Tamara, now that she is in a gun shop can help? Worth a try.

I'll find one eventaully, 1973. I could have any the gunshops around here order it for me, but I don't want to commit to actually purchasing one until I get to actually handle it and see how it mounts and swings.

I've handled the EAA 28 ga at gunshows on more than one occassion.

A tad crude but cool, and points well for me.

Mike, I apologize for not making myself clear in reference to Tamara. I was wondering if a "demo" could be sent your way ;)
Any other gun shop people here have "demo" Stoeger 28 ga SXS ?
Mike is even willing to T&E , and give us a fine Range Report and Review. (aren't you Mike...just nod yes).

Ok, there I did my part...Oh Preacherman...light another candle will ya ? ;)

Well, it's of no consequence anymore, as I just decided to buy one of Wild Alaska's HK PSPs, so once again, there goes the shotgun budget!

Plus I just figured out that I'm going to be owing Uncle Sam a nice, tidy sum in taxes this year. Sigh.
