First post here, referred by someone on swordforum.com (more my field).

My name is Kevin Inouye, and I'm starting a modest props rental business in Seattle to compliment my work as a fight choreographer and stuntman... it's all small stuff on the side for now (as I type this from my day job termnial), but I hope it'll go places. The rental page (which doesn't yet have any detail information on the items) is www.nomadboi.com/rentals.rentals.html (http://www.nomadboi.com/rentals/rentals.html)

Anyway, I'd like to be able to offer basic information about all the prop weapons I have- who would use them, standard magazine size, dates in service, etc... and I recently picked up an airsoft model I haven't been able to identify yet. Anybody recognize this?

I was looking for something with a very modern look, but on a budget, and this fit the bill... but what is it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like a copy of the HK SL-8. The Civilian version of the G36.

I think Snowman is right. To the other questions..

who would use them: civilian gun nuts who really REALLY wanted an HK G36 and couldn't get one thanks to current gun laws.

Standard magazine size: 10, I think. But the mag well is modular, and looks like it should swap out for a G36 variant, which would take 30 round G36 mags. Also not civilian legal presently. Don't know where one would order such a thing.

There's a couple folks making adaptors for M16 magazines, which ARE plentiful and legal here. Standard capacity 30 or 20 rounds, 5 and 10 round versions also available.

Dates in service: no idea, but judging from the configuration it didn't come over till after '89.

Guess you can tell I don't know much about HKs. :p

edit.. alternately, you can ignore all the above.
It's a super-sleek PulseGun used by the United Earth Marines in the Year 2145. It fires nano-fused 4.2mm AP/HE rounds. Mag capacity is 125 standard, 450 support variant. ;)

PS -- neat idea for getting a tax-deductable toy collection. Good luck in your business! :)

Good info guys, thanks.

That actually works pretty well for me- one film I'm working on now has a team of corporate 'operatives', sorta special forces but not for the gov't. I've already filmed a few scens using the MP-5s, M-16s, and a brief cameo of a SIG 550, but there are multiple teams. Sounds like this might be a good choice for a high-tech corporate operative...

And it looks pretty solid, which is also good. Already had one actor break one SIG, pretending to get shot; dropped the gun, lept up and back and came down right on top of it. Oops.

The Non-Shooters won't know the difference, and it will give the Shooters something to talk about.

"Hey, why is that guy using an SL8-1, when he could have a G36?"
"I dunno. He did dye it black, though."
"Yeah, but what kind of magazine is that? It's not HK, and it almost looks like a 20 round AR mag."

Something like that. :D

Actually, by the color and the magazine's width, it looks like the HK SL8-4. The European SL8-4 can accept G36 magazines rather than be limited to the neutered single-stack version.

An airsoft G36c would be a better choice for a badguy, or a good guy.

I've already filmed a few scens using the MP-5s, M-16s,

For a nominal fee, airfare, hotel and generous expense account, I'll rent you a real MP5 and M16. :D

..which would jam when firing blanks anyway.

Not that I have any kind of budget. These are mostly low budget indie films I'm working with for now.
