Cold Steel has introduced a minimalist boot knife, The Spike. It is 8" long, with a 4" blade. The handle is cord wrapped. Available in tanto and regular blade styles.

Anyone know if 420 will take a decent edge?
Anyone had a chance to handle or use one of these?

I bought one some time ago. I thought it was too thin in the handle myself.

It may be considered a dirk in some locales as the blade shape is pretty close to triangular.

4-20 will take a decent edge but not last that long. The knife, by design, is more a stabbing implement than a slasher.

I have the Tanto version.

It is a cool little knife. I got it for only around $20 shipped, so if it catches your fancy, may as well get it unless money is REAL tight.

I like it. I haven't used it nor done any cutting tests, but it sure is a sharp little bugger and would make a heck of a stabber and back-up weapon.

It comes with a cool plastic sheath that holds it very well, even upside down when worn as a neck knife, and comes with a ball chain (no, not a crusty, bossy old wife! :neener: ) as well. Pretty cool.

It seems solid enough as it is made from one piece of 1/4" steel. It would make a great back-up or secondary knife.

Overall, I am pretty impressed with it and would recommend it to others.

Do you really need or want a 1/4" thick paring knife?

Why, yes. I have often wished paring knives had sturdier blades, as I love the blade shape.

...though our purchases after a concealable pistol, knife, militia rifle and accessories aren't really about need anyway.

Yeah, very easy to carry.

The included sheath gives many carry options, but I bought a cheapo knock-off of this blade also because the cheapo came with a sheath that straps to your forearm or calf.

LOTS of ways to carry a blade this slim and small. :)

Design by Barry Dawson out of Durango CO. Bought one of his years ago when he first had one on display at the SOF show in Las Vegas to add to the other 8 of his blades I own. Little more expensive than Cold Steel. One made by hand in CO, the other machine made off continent.
