Hello all, I am new to the forum and look forward to meeting you good folks over time. I've been into knife collecting for some time and have recently expanded my horizons into handguns.
I used to have a 4" barrel Taurus .38 revolver that I loved, but was stolen. I've gone thru some junky pistols in the past 10 years and then picked up a S&W .45 full size 1911 from somebody that paid me for some side work with it. Over time I realized I wanted something smaller for carrying. A friend had a S&W Airweight (.38) that I fell in love with, and recently picked up "The Bodyguard" S&w Airweight with a shrouded hammer.
Ok, that was my introduction, here's my questions:
First, when I bought the gun the guy sold me a box of Speer Gold Dot +P HP's with 135 grain, which according to other research I've done seems to be many folks first choice for a pistol with a 1 7/8" barrel. Additionally he sold me a box of Federal Premium Hydra-Shoks that are 147 grain and rated High Velocity (+P+). Now I've seen on an archived forum say you should NEVER use (+P+) in this gun. Looking on the barrel I see now that it is marked for +P, but not +P+. Should I return these, and can I get Hydra Shoks that will work with this gun? (Sorry, but I am new to all the different classes and grades of ammo available, when I had my old revolver, it came with a few boxes of ammo I never used up and I never learned much about it)
Second question, can someone break down the difference in the Crimson Trace L105,205,305, and 405? I want to get some, but don't seem to grasp all the differences. I think I like the 105's because they are a hard grip(not rubberized) and I think it would not grab on clothing when carried concealed. From what I understand it is also a narrow grip. I also understand that the 405 is supposed to have a recoil reducer, which is more rubber, which I'm thinking I'm not wanting. I'm wanting to keep this gun as small and sleek as possible, I love it as is, but I want to get some CT on there. The 105's also seem to be on sale alot of places, which , of course, I like. I don't have anywhere local to hold and compare all 4 versions....all opinions are welcomed and I would like to extend my thanks in advance for any help available.
Cheers, Ryan
