On a Mossberg shotgun that I just bought is the most tenacious protective sticky film. I've spent more than an our trying to get it off with all sorts of different gun cleaners and none seem to work. (Hoppe's #9 etc)

Any suggestions for a solvent to use?

Try using a hair dryer to soften the adhesive and pull the film off, then use mineral spirits to remove the adhesive left behind.

Take you time and enjoy, there is a gun under that!!!

Try Motzenbocker's Lift-Off. It's an adhesive remover from Home Depot. It comes in a Windex-type spray bottle. It's never failed me on metal, plastic, wood, etc.

If you are talking about the packing grease inside the action try Carb and Choke Cleaner, works great on getting nasty crap off.

Just picked up a good used 2.5 gal untrasonic cleaner for $75.00!!! I have a smaller one with only a 2 qt. capacity.

Can't wait to try this on a pistol (less grips). Will get it this weekend.

Will probably use mineral spirits in unheated mode.

Be careful using motor cleaning solvents on a firearm. Some of them will strip off the blueing along with any dirt :what:

Plastic parts suffer when sprayed with most Choke and Carb cleaners. Mossies have plastic parts in them.
