Mini 14 primer

I know ARs and the M1A should use a harder primer due to the floating firing pin. What about the mini 14? Do they have a floating firing pin too?

While I'm not sure about the Mini 14, it's better practice to always reload in a way that won't have forseeable problems with any gun it could be chambered in. If slamfires are a known issue with certain primers at certain calibers, it is best to avoid using those primers for those calibers.
I know that certain .223 AK's also have free-floating firing pins, so it's not just AR's.

The only primers I know you should stay away from for the Mini 14 are Federal primers. They are too soft for gas operated rifles.
And, yes, the Mini 14 does have a free floating FP.

Back before I knew any better I shot many rounds with Federal primers in my Mini 14 without issue, but not using them is sound advise. I don't use Federals any more for loading .223 that will be shot in my AR or my Mini.

I've fired thousands of .223 rounds through my Mini-14 that I bought new in 1979, which is an early GB Model. All my rounds were loaded with Winchester Small Rifle primers and I never had a problem with them or it.
Hope this helps.

I have used CCI primers almost exclusively in all my reloading with no problems in any caliber.

I have been loading my Ruger Mini-30 with Fed 210M primers for years. I have fired several thousand rounds without a problem.
I contacted Ruger a few years ago and asked them if it was OK to shoot Federal ammunition through my Mini-30. I was told that there was absolutely no reason not to shoot Federal ammo in a Mini. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that Federal ammo uses Fed primers. If Ruger claims Federal primers are safe in their rifles, that's good enough for me.
Can anyone here post a link to an actual slam-fire or any other problem associated with Federal Primers in Ruger Mini?

I use regular CCI small rifle or Wolf Magnum Small Rifle. No problems with either.

I've only used CCI 400 Small Rifle primers and have not had one problem with them.

If you are having slam-fire problems, I would imagine its not a primer problem. I would go to the rifle first. I know the SKS can have that problem if the owner doesnt take his bolt apart and clean the firing pin channel once in awhile... Also I have heard of it happening because the reloader didnt seat his primers correctly.
