I'm still kicking myself about...

The great deal I passed up over a year ago.

A couple of years ago I walked into the local pawn shop to check out what he had. I do this every once in a while even though the guy is a shark!
Anyway, he had a very dirty revolver in the case that looked like a Smith and I asked him about it. He handed it to me and told me it was some kind of S&W "knock-off" that he would let me have for cheap. The price tag said $125 and it was a stainless Dan Wesson .357. I'm not really a revolver guy, but the cylinder was tight when cocked and there was no end shake or anything I could see. The cylinder did bind a bit when turned, but with a DW you set the cylinder gap yourself and it looked like somebody had simply set it without a gauge, or maybe it was too dirty.
And all the time, the shop owner is singing away about how a gunsmith could fix that cylinder bind problem and that it would probably clean up nice... he thought it was junk!

And stupidly, instead of pulling out my checkbook I handed the gun back and told him I'd "think about it". Actually, I was just going to try and milk him for an even better price by delaying until pay day and coming back to hem and haw some more. And I did come back on pay day and that revolver was gone...

What deal did you pass up that makes you wince when you think about it?

About 2 years ago I saw several Beretta 84s or 85s in nickel finish and with wood grips. Beautiful guns anyway and in that finish I think it just might be the best looking gun made. I came close to buying one on several occasions but the price just got the better of me. At the time I didn't have many guns and for that price I could get a 9mm of similar size so I just couldn't bring myself to put down that much cash on a .380, especially when I had many neglected catagories. I figured they'd always be around when I finally had the basics covered and maybe I'd have more money to spare later too. Well, I haven't seen one in about a year and a half around here and now with the built-in lock law and other MD restrictions there will never again (so says Beretta) another new Beretta sold in MD (of course, they're still willing to sell to local police agencies since those are exempt and Beretta doesn't have to worry about the laws:banghead: ). I have all the basics covered now (including a .22 target pistol and a good carry 9mm) so when I leave MD that is one of my first purchases.

Another is a used S&W 422. Nice .22lr for only $200 or so. That or one of the used .22 SA revolvers (Bearcat, Single Six, Colt New Frontier) for $200-250 should have come home with me.

Another, still available, but I should have bought the Cimarron or Ruger Vaquero I wanted a couple years ago, had the credit card out for the downpayment (for the Cimarron), but I put away the card and I didn't buy. I still want one, but somehow something else always seems to get higher priority.

Many years ago I passed up buying a 357 Redhawk, and the next day decided that I should get it, gone of course. It was 10 YEARS until I saw another one, that one got snatched up as soon as I heard about it. :)

Heh...

H&K 91 with extra mags and all the goodies (bayonet, bipod...) for $700 and change back in '85 or so... I thought it was clunky for a .308...

Two of them...

Less painful was a Kahr E9, just turned my head to look for the wifey to brag about my find. Guy next to me then plunked half the gun's price on to the waiting palm of the attending clerk. Just my luck... :(

One was a P7m8, offered LNIB at $950. Like the fool I am, ignored it.

It's tagged at $2,200 now.:banghead:

Ran into a guy at a gun show last year who wanted to get rid of his YK2 stash. This included a cherry Colt AR15 shorty, 10 USGI mags, a $300 red dot, and a battle pack of .223 ammo. He wanted $600...and I had $550. He said he'd hold it for me if I wanted to run to the ATM. I decided to wait him out. Bad decision....real %#%^ bad decision.
