I have an opportunity to get some 7.62x54R ammunition marked JMS 02 heastamp. It seems that this is boxer primed from the searches I have done, but has anyone tried reloading it successfully? Are there any quirks about reloading this caliber i.e are the primers a standard size (like large rifle) or would I need special primers etc. I have a source of cast bullets 165gr. .311 dia. They would be for hunting once in awhile, and maybe plinking.

7.62x54R Ball ammunition, reportedly US DoD contract for the new Iraqi/Afghani forces, copper jacketed, lead core projectile, brass case, brass percussion primer, red primer sealant, ring primer crimp. Packaging & cartridge construction similar to IK production, but possibly Privi Partisan production. Headstamp JMS 02
I would say it's probably very good ammo. I'm not sure what a "brass percussion primer" is exactly but suspect it may be boxer primed, being 2002 manufactured by Prvi-Partizan. If you could fire one, you would know by looking of course.

I bought a lot of it. I have fired some of it through a Tokarev rifle. It is Boxer primed and non corrosive. It functioned 100% through my Tokarev. I have not reloaded it. I deprimed a couple cases and they look normal.
What more do you want to know?

Do you know what size primers they take by any chance? I'm guessing large rifle...

Thread is really old but I thought I would answer the question. I was getting JMS ammo for $5 a bag of 20, so I was buying them up for the mere fact that they were boxer primed. They reloaded very fine, and I have not see no cracks or splits in any of the cases after 2-3 reloadings, yet. They do take regular Boxer large rifle primers. Somebody said somewhere the primers were ring crimped in, but I never even swaged out the primer pockets that I remember. Probably have like 300 of the cases. Wish I could find more.
Had an American Lapua distributor selling brand new unfired Lapua 7.62X54R cases for $30/100, but we all knew THAT was too good to last. Got about 600 before they ran out of those.
