slide not locking back...

I took my Sig P228 out to the range today(first time I've used it). First I must say I was extremly impressed with the gun. I seriously doubt my glock will be getting much range time anymore.
Now to my problem: the slide does not lock back on the sig after the last round is fired. For the first mag it did lock but then for the rest(5 or 6) it failed to lock back. Now I'm really not sure what causes it or how to fix it(yeah I'm that new and inept when fixing my guns atm- hopefully that will change). If it's too hard of a fix I guess I'll run it back to the shop I got it from to get it looked @(really nice employee[s]).
btw I tried to register on www.sigforum.com to ask as perhaps more ppl would know but it won't take my e-mail address despite it being a "paid" for address(through my school)...annoying...
-hope this wasn't asked before, I ran a search and came up empty...)-
Thanks

Failure to lock back is frequently due to a weak mag spring or the wrong follower in the mag.
Are the mags NEW and did they come with the gun?
If you're sure its a proper factory mag suitable for that gun, try disassembling the mag and stretching the spring.
If the spring is weak, stretching will make it work right temporarily. (But only temporarily.)
If that solves the problem, and the mag was new, take it back from where you bought it for a replacement. If it was used, order a new mag spring from Wolff Springs (www.gunsprings.com).

It maybe a couple of things.
1. You maybe inadvertantly be riding the Slide release with your thumb.
I do this on SIGS because I shoot with a high grip.
2. Your Mag spring maybe weak.

I tried 4 mags, 2 pre-bans. All failed to lock, except for one pre-ban the first time I used it.
I could be hitting the slide release, I'll have to experiment. If not I'll check the mags, but I'd be surprised if all 4 mags were weak...
thanks for info

Another suggestion is to give the gun to someone else to shoot to see if the problems can be recreated.
Fortunately, getting someone to take a few shots with a P228 shouldn't be a problem.

Interesting you mention that...
I fired the first mag, then handed it off to another guy(thats a whole other story...some people need to buy their own guns instead of always borrowing other random peoples @ the ragne week after week...) who shot off the second at which point it stopped locking open...

Usually, it's the result of weak springs, or too much schmutz in the mag binding the carrier.
I've also seen this happen when "limp wristing" the pistol. My wife was excellent at it. For a while, her grip was firm enough to cycle the next round in, but not enough to catch the lock on the last round.

Before you start trouble shooting the hardware (the gun), troubleshoot the software (your technique). Double checking yourself is cheaper and easier than getting the weapon checked. When I first got my XD, I was inadvertantly riding the slide release as I shot, which trapped it down when the mag follower was trying to push it up.
In short, I agree with previous posters :D

Oh so thats it! My buddy has a P220 that wont lock back alot on him but its never failed to lock back when I was shootin it. I had told him to get new springs but he never did. We thought it was weird that it did it for him but not for me. I never suspected the thumb riding the stop. The only time I ever had thumb riding the stop probs was with my G21 but was different in that it would lock back in the middle of a string, under recoil my thumb was activating the slidestop. I learned to lock down my stronghand thumb with my offhand thumb and naturally shoot other pistols the same way.
I'll have to tell him bout' that.:D
