If it has a guide rod it's not the stock commander... but this should get you started. There are some variations among the 1911 platforms so watch a few and you should be able to figure it out. And get a manual. ;)

When you get done stripping it, get yourself a standard guide rod, spring and plug. ;)

Can someone please explain the difference b/w the full length guide rod, one peice guide rod, and no guide rod for the 1911 commander.

Full length guide rod and one piece guide rod are used interchangeably from what I've read... though there are some full length guide rods with a rotating portion near the back. The rod is basically the full length of the barrel and is visible below the barrel when you rack the slide.

the standard guide rod is stubbier, and isn't visible below the barrel when you rack the slide. Full length guide rods require a different recoil spring plug, one with a hole in it to allow the guide rod to slip through. The standard plug is just checkered and has no hole in it. It's also easier to disassemble the gun with one of these as you don't need to use a tool to compress the plug to rotate the barrel bushing.

No guide rod... gun won't work very well. :D

I should have said "full length" guide rod in my post above; that may have been confusing.

It can't be that hard, bro. What's the issue you're having? Have you actually watched those vids or read a manual on how to field strip a 1911?

Really? Between youtube and the manual you can't figure it out? If you describe the problem you're having in more detail I'm sure somone here could walk you through it.
