Found out yesterday my wifes cousin shot himself cleaning his 9mm . A sad reminder of gun saftey.

"Two hand guns and a cleaning kit were in close proximity to officer Robinson," Bradford said. "One of the handguns was officer Robinson's personal property, the other his city-issued service weapon. From observations at the scene, the service weapon is the weapon that discharged."

I treat every gun as if it is loaded...this is a stark reminder to never become careless.

Again, my sympathies to your family.

"I treat every gun as if it is loaded...this is a stark reminder to never become careless."

At the risk of being too pedantic, I will point out that if the above statement were followed literally, you would never load a firearm since you always assume it is ALREADY loaded. Yes, assume it is loaded UNTIL you carefully check and double check to make sure it is not. I try to be very careful any time I pull a trigger. Firearms seldom discharge accidentally unless the trigger is pulled. But safety should always paramount in handling firearms. It is a sad irony that it is often policemen who kill because of carelessness in handling the basic tool of their profession.

My wife and I are saddened by the loss of your wife's cousin. Please know that we will be keeping you in our prayers in the day to come.

And yes... events like this are a reminder that while we may find some enjoyment in this hobby. If we do not respect the tools, they will in no way respect us.

Again... our heart felt sympathy to you and your family.

God Bless

I have been dryfiring alot and getting sloppy with gun safety because of it. Now I keep some of my guns loaded all the time. It keeps me on the up and up.

Again my sympathy!

Definetly a sad story, MtrCty - one we can all use to remind us of what we really know so well, & that is to treat EVERY gun as though it is loaded.

My thoughts & condolences to the family, friends, & co-workers. Also - remember, God does hear prayer.

yeesh...

My condolences and prayers for his family...

Sounds like he forgot the first rule of cleaning a firearm: MAKE SURE IT IS UNLOADED.

A sad reminder for all of us to, at all times, heed safety rules.
