I have used a Patternmaster choke tube for years with good results duck and goose hunting. However, I have only used it with 2 3/4" and 3" shells.

I recently got a Benelli Super Nova, and I see that they make a special Patternmaster for 3.5" shells now.

My question is: is the new tube worth it? I expect some of you out there have probably shot both 3.5" buckshot and large steel through both the regular and extended Patternmaster tubes - how much of an improvement (if any) did you see with the 3.5" Patternmaster?

I have a hunting partner who bought the extended range choke this year. And about all I can say about it is that it shoots 3.5" #2 steel very tight. It shredded birds at 25 to 30 yards when he managed to hit one. I can't verify that it was any advantage at long distance shots. He didn't seem to do as well as I did at shots over 40 yds and I was using 2.75" #6 Hevi-Shot with a standard Remington modified choke.
