submiami February 11, 2009, 09:43 PM So I am a victim of the new economy and I need to get rid of a rifle. Here is what I have. What should I get rid of?

Saiga 308
Mak90 Stamped
CZ VZ-58

22lr February 11, 2009, 09:44 PM Ill buy the lower $140, LOL if its stripped $225 complete, I joke but am quite serious at the same time. New ones can be had for $145 so that is about as much as I would pay.
JimmAr February 11, 2009, 09:45 PM Sell all of it.. then when the economy returns get yourself something pretty. :p
gvnwst February 11, 2009, 09:49 PM Depends. How much $$$ do you need, if you don't mind my asking. If not that much, and you can live without a AR for now, sell the lower. Other than that, for me the MAK would be first to go, and i would keep the VZ-58 and sagia 12 till last.
Kentucky February 11, 2009, 09:50 PM I would sell the VZ first.
nwilliams February 11, 2009, 09:55 PM The Mak-90 is will probably fetch you a decent right now because people seem to be paying a lot for them nowadays. The last stamped one that sold at my local gun store went for around $650.
I can't condone selling the Vz-58 simply because I want one. The Saiga 12 you should keep because, well it's a Saiga 12. The Saiga .308 I might sell because they aren't terribly hard to find. The Cav-15 lower I might sell as well, it's not really a lower I would care to build an AR from.
submiami February 11, 2009, 10:01 PM Thanks for the comments. Why the vz 58, why the mak 90, out of curiousity. I havent fired the vz 58 but it just seems like such a nice rifle. I am leaning towards the mak 90, but I feel like Im selling my kid, cuz I shot that thing so much
Kind of Blued February 11, 2009, 10:13 PM I'd sell the VZ 58 because it's the least essential to a decent long arm collection in my opinion.
I'd panhandle a bit first though... While walking dogs next to my lawnmower.
jpwilly February 11, 2009, 10:26 PM Really the question is how much $ do you need and what your most willing to sell/part with. I don't really understand asking us were not financial consultants. You need to do whats best for you.
submiami February 11, 2009, 10:34 PM the question for you guys aint about money it is, if you had to part with one of the above, what is the first you would part with. Thanks for the responses so far
husker February 11, 2009, 10:38 PM the one that means the least to me. is where i would start.and yes they do grow on you like your best old pair of tenny shoes. man im sorry you have to make that kind of choice. good luck
rangerruck February 11, 2009, 10:59 PM hate to say it, but the 308, ammo is too expensive, and you can get about 700 bucks for an unconverted saiga 308 right now.
rangerruck February 11, 2009, 11:00 PM next would be the vz, matter of money as well, plus the mags are the least common.
atlanticfire February 11, 2009, 11:04 PM Is the saiga 12 a convert? I had two of them sold them both, I guess I just wasn’t impressed. Got myself a nice Browning.
CoyoteSlayer February 12, 2009, 06:54 AM I'd keep the Saiga 12, although they are fetching ridiculous prices right now ($700-900). The Saiga .308 would be the one I'd get rid of.
RaferJanders February 12, 2009, 07:29 PM Get rid of the Poodle shooter lower, Keep the rest
snakeman February 12, 2009, 08:05 PM lower and vz
DRYHUMOR February 13, 2009, 05:19 AM Sell everything but the VZ, and use some of the money for ammo. Then go shoot it, to feel better about selling everything else off. ;)
Odnar February 13, 2009, 06:00 AM No more Norincos coming in. Although maybe I'm just being sentimental since I have a Mak and it's probably my favorite rifle of all time.
Favorite rifle I own, I should say.
Reid73 February 13, 2009, 08:43 AM Sorry to hear that you are in this predicament.
Sell all of it.. then when the economy returns get yourself something prettyDitto. I suggest a quality bolt action rifle and a nice double-barrelled shotgun.
jpwilly February 13, 2009, 12:00 PM Don't sell the MAK90 you'll regret i! I'd sell the CZ even though they are nice rifles just and odd ball IMO.
Funderb February 13, 2009, 12:02 PM the saiga 308 is probably the most useful rifle you have. sell the rest.
except maybe the mak90. keep that.
sernv99 February 13, 2009, 01:18 PM I'll add my dilemma to the mix.
PTR-91 standard
Sig 556 with 9 mags, NIB
Arsenal 107 7.62x39, with Bulgy steel and plastic mags
the PTR and AK have been shot about 450 rounds through them. I just don't shoot them often to warrant them being safe queens. And looking around for ammo to feed them, 7.62x39 is a pain to come by at a decent price, .223 is the cheapest of the bunch with Wolf and .308 is the most expensive.
which one would be the best to sell given the supply of affordable ammo? I don't handload so I'm basing my decision on off-the-shelf pricing alone. Even with a AWB likely in the near term, the price of ammo restricts my finances to shooting all of them more frequently.
I would like to keep at least 1 of them, just in case down the road ammo becomes more reasonable and I want a fun gun to shoot on the farm. I have a Tikka T3 in .308 so I'm covered with having a .308 on hand, hence I'm thinking to sell the PTR.
thoughts?
interlock February 13, 2009, 01:55 PM selling guns because you are credit crunched is tough. Do you really really need to do it? I have done this in the past and regretted it afterwards. you may find that in 2 weeks you will still be broke..... but not have your guns. They don't eat anything (so long as you keep your finger off the trigger) try to keep them.
interlock
sernv99 February 13, 2009, 02:14 PM I don't know about the OP but I'm wanting to sell at least one of mine to fund another project, Krieghoff K80 which is $10k LOL so another couple grand and I'm there...I shoot shotgun sports more than my rifles due to ammo expense so time to face the music and just keep maybe one around as a fun toy and sell the rest. I'm not of the mindset of keeping them for the sake of defending my house against the "man" when he comes knocking on my door.
sang716 February 13, 2009, 02:16 PM keep the guns, sell a kidney
gotime242 February 13, 2009, 02:35 PM Sell all of them and buy a saiga .223 w/ tapco stock.
Dr. Tad Hussein Winslow February 13, 2009, 04:41 PM I'd lose the lower first, then the Saiga .308, then....tough call.
Ignition Override February 13, 2009, 08:14 PM sernv99:
Is that why so many people discuss self-defense with something larger than a handgun? Actual confiscation?
My naive impression was that they are afraid of a post-apocalyptic Road Warrior situation.

well, there is a lot of talk about having something for a SHTF situation or to protect oneself from "the man" but we don't live in Nigeria or the Balkans where ethnic cleansing and insurgency is a regular thing LOL
submiami May 1, 2009, 12:59 PM I meanthe vz58 is unfired and just beatiful, the mak90 is the trustiest gun in the world... I am leaning towards the mak cause the saiga 308 is an ak based design...but who knows...thank you all for your posts
