Anyone buy one of these from SOG? How good or bad are they? I've always thought I'd like to own a Hi-Power. Is this the way to go to get a good Hi-Power that won't cost an arm and a leg?
Thanks.

To much money. I MIGHT go for one for about $200-220 or so.
Yes, supposedly they were made on Browning machinery in Argentina, but the metal on these has a reputation as being softer. And it's re-arsenaled so you really have to idea what kind of mileage is on the frame/slide ect.
When I'm in the market for another HP I'll be saving a few bucks more to get a nice used/mint example of the real deal.
Btw, I saw a brand new FEG PJK-9HP at the gunshow Saturday. Came with two 13 rounders. Nice light trigger, small ring hammer, took it apart, perfect as new, correct Browning barrel locking lug. Price? $220. I put it down and decided I better go look at the rest of the tables first. When I came back IT WAS GONE!!! :cuss:
I could have kicked myself in the a$$!

I really like my Argentine. Accurate out of the box, tho the sights are small, and it goes bang every time I pull the trigger. Several hundred rounds so far without a hitch. I got it from SOG, FWIW.
As far as the soft metal, from my research all this really means is that you must replace internals in groups; i.e. not just the hammer, but hammer+sear at the same time, etc.
If you go with a FEG, stay away from the P9M and make sure you get the 9HP.

I've had an Argentine for several years. The only problem that I've had was when it was brand new, it would stove pipe occasionally. Took it to a gun smith, and he slicked things up a mite, and it's worked fine ever sense. Accurate, comfortable to shoot, and after the first two or three hammer bites, I learned how NOT to hold it ,lol.
If the SOG's are anything like mine, then you should be ok, although 299.99 seems a bit high. Mine was around 230-250 at the True Value store where I used to live.
