With or without the spent primer?

Do you tumble your cases with spent primer in? This is an offshoot of a question I posed in another thread. I'm relatively new to reloading, and THR, and hope I could come up with a general consensus of which way would be most effective.

I couldn't change the answers to the poll after I created it. So, just select "yes" for primer in, "no" for primer out.

TIA for the assistance!

with or without what?

I don't worry about depriming before tumbling, so I voted "yes." I am not sure if I voted correctly, as the question posed in the poll wasn't really "yes/no" answerable. However, I leave them in and go.

I deprime then resize then tumble.
Like my brass shiney.

I voted YES ... IN!!

I don't want to run dirty cases through my FL sizing/decapping dies (pistol cases, .223 Rem, .45-70) ... brass is soft, carbon is hard. I neck size all of my .30 caliber rifle cases so I just wipe the necks with a non-ammonia containing cleaner (thanks Don ;) ) before I size them.

I see now...

Pistol brass, I tumble with the primer still in.

Bolt rifle brass, same thing, still in.

When I process my brass for my gas guns, these batches get tumbled twice, once before sizing (Clean and Polish) and again after sizing/depriming to remove the case lube.

I guess I fall under the both category.

I tumble all my brass with the primers in before sizing. Any brass requiring lubrication for sizing then gets tumbled again, after I've cleaned the primer pockets and trimmed, deburred, etc.

My brass shines brightly, and everyone on the range knows which brass is mine and which dull, dingy, ugly brass is theirs.

Hope this helps.

I do it both ways, depends on whats needed at the time. its not any kind of a problem either way. It never occurred to me to wonder about which way is what.

Both, before and after resize.I don't want to scratch my resize die and I don't want any lube on a casing that momentarily has to grip the chamber walls.

I tumble in corn cob before depriming, then after depriming, I tumble in walnut which will not clog up the boxer brass primer hole. I do not tumble berdan primed brass after depriming, as the walnut will clog up the berdan primer holes.

Do you tumble with spent primers in or out?

Yes
No

Can't say as I completely understand your poll. How do you answer "Yes" or "No" to an either/or question? Aside from that, since I remove my primers with a Universal Decapping Die, I usually tumble after depriming and before resizing.

I wet clean first then tumble, so I deprime first.

Apparently it's a trick question.

Yes or no. Do you still beat your wife?

Question needs editing for clarity.

I do both. Tumble, resize and deprime, then tumble again for about and hour to remove the lube and put that last shiny touch on the brass.

My apologies. It was a bit late when I posted the poll. Seems as though the question was poorly worded. Just hit yes, if you tumble with the primer in, no with the primer out. But, it's pretty funny, the majority of responders do tumble with the spent primers in.

Thanks for the update. I waited until the confusion was cleared up to vote. YES I tumble with the spent primer in the casing to prevent any media from setting up camp there.

I deprime first, I clean chemically/liquid, I lube every fifth case.

I use small Federal primers.

I deprime w/ the lee universal deprimer, then tumble, then size with the correct sizer/deprimer die (this step sizes and knocks out any media stuck in the primer whole) then clean primer pocket and trim to length if needed.

Tumble straight off the range, then load, tumble after that to remove lube-do a final polish. Leaving a chunk of tumbler media in the flash hole, is a no-no. It makes for inaccurate loads.

+1 to C.R.A. exactly how I do it.
The whole process.
Deprime with universal deprimer
tumble
lube
resize with deprimer pin to clean flash hole
bell mouth
tumble briefly to remove lube
hand prime with Autoprime
charge with powder
press on bullet
store for next range trip
