Naive, brave, or just stupid -- you be the judge

So I'm at lunch the other day and lo and behold, here's this Soccer Mom's mini-van replete with a big bumper sticker on the back, a handgun in one of those red circles with the line through it. Caption: "Arms are for hugging".
Now, if someone wants to publically oppose the liberties enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, they are entitled to do that. The Constitution, ironically, protects their freedom to do that. But I wonder what someone is thinking when she advertises "I am a disarmed sheep, please victimize me" to potential criminals on a daily basis.
So, naive, brave, or just stupid?

"Arms" can also be used for other things, such as beating on someone smaller than you or for holding down a rape victim.
Really, the sentiment expressed in bumper stickers and slogans like that is truly admirable, the world would be a great place if arms were only used for hugging.
However, its also totally unrealistic, humans have been harming each other since the days of the caveman. Just another example of the leftists' "Field of Dreams" - "if we wish it, it will magically happen".

I dunno...
When one of my firearms does exceptionally well, I sometimes get a warm fuzzy feeling, and am moved to give that firearm a good hug! :D

She might as well put a flashing light on top of the van that says "I'm a willing victim."

Really, the sentiment expressed in bumper stickers and slogans like that is truly admirable, the world would be a great place if arms were only used for hugging. I have to agree completely. I think one of the biggest disservices that we do for ourselves is not foster the idea that while we(the pro-self defence crowd) do prepare for violence, we do not wish for it.
I think those people really do believe that we all secretly hope for some "action".

If my post implied otherwise, I apologize. I am one of the most peaceful guys you are ever likely to meet. Haven't been in a fight since elementary school decades ago. Avoid trouble like the plague. I just don't have any illusions that trouble might not find me anyway some day and I don't want to be "Caught in the headlights of the Kenworth of life."

Thanks for letting me know how you feel about firearms. Now that I know where you live, I will feel a lot safer when I stop by for a visit.
:what:
Well, maybe something a little more eloquent.

I'm more interested in the amount of obsessing "our side" does over such bumperstickers than in the mindset of the person who has it on her car.

I'm not "obsessing". I'm just honestly curious about the psychology of such a thing. I suspect it's more a matter of not thinking through the message they send potential predators than anything else. But it's not "obsessing".

I couldn't agree more. But I believe the bumper sticker had a icon of a gun being crossed out.
Personally, I http://www.sbbent.com/forum3/html/emoticons/wub.gif hugs.

"Arms are for hugging, knees are for jerking, and hearts are for bleeding." The biggest problem with a bleeding heart is that it never seems to be fatal.

Maybe some skell bad guy will see the bumper sticker throw down his evil black-tactical-17 round assault pistol and run into a church looking for someone to hug:banghead:
Then again maybe she's just a sheep who believes everything the media tells her.......

I have no doubt they believe that; I don't, however, care what anti-Second Amendment bigots so-called "think."

I've gotta say that it's pretty stupid. Saying that you don't have an effective tool to defend yourself is almost as bad as handcuffing yourself to the bed when someone breaks in.
I do think the notion a noble one, but why not let that show in her actions, rather than openly advertise?
Look at it this way: If you or I, the gunnies, put on our car "You can have my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hand," or "When in doubt, empty the magazine," then in a lot of places, we'd be prime targets to get pulled over by the authorities for "probable cause," or another asinine reason.
By the same token, if they have stickers advertising how helpless they are, they can be targeted by opportunistic cretins.

Couple women at my office had those "I'm the Million Mom March, and I Vote" stickers on their cars.
I used to try to park beside one every day. I've got an NRA Life Member sticker on my car.

Actually, I don't put that stuff on my car because I'd rather not be a rolling billboard advertising that I have guns. My house is unattended all day, and I don't need to be giving people any ideas that it's a good target of opportunity.

Yes, it did. Maybe I should have emphasized that more in the original post. It wasn't just a touchy feely thing like "Envision World Peace", it was an anti-gun sticker.
BTW, arms are for more than just hugging. They appear to be useful for using golf clubs very poorly, if my experience at the driving range yesterday is any indication.

Nah --- food.
My bud T.C. and I were talking about modern society a few months ago. We came to the conclusion that people were more civilized and a whole lot smarter,,,,, back when there was a good chance something would try to eat them every day.
