Are there any other rounds that a 480 Ruger can shoot? I was considering a 454 since it will shoot 45LC, but I can get a 480 for 100 bucks less.

No.

It's a shortened version of the 475 Linebaugh, so if you have a gun chambered in the 475 Linebaugh, you could shoot 480 Ruger loads in it. The 480 Ruger is the "special" version of the 475 Linebaugh (or the 475L is the "magnum" version of the 480R). If you handload, you can use a wide variety of loads. John Taffin did some testing that showed great potential on the high end loads for the 480. I don't recall if he did any light work with it.

coincidently, I just bought one tonight. There's a good article in the month's Handloader

The .480 is supposed to handle nicely with cast bullets at 900 fps. Hodgdon also shows loads with 370 gr bullets at over 1500 fps with max loads, and that ain't no puffcake load:what:

To me the SRH is a pretty nice platform - easy scope mounting, decent trigger, very tight lockup, and double action. Besides that, how can you not like a gun made of Carpenter Custom 465 stainless?:D
