The temp. gets to single digits here in upstate NY in the winter....I can't carry at work, but I carry to and from......I keep my gun in the car trunk(in a locked box)...will the temp. effect my gun...it's an SP101 revolver....

As long as you don't have gobs of lube that is suceptible to low temps you should be just fine. Most high quality semi autos will perform in temp extremes from very very hot to very very cold if they are lubed correctly. Your SP101 is far simpler should work just fine. I have shot ours in temps in the high 20s and had no problems.
Now putting the cold hunk of steel next to your skin when you take it out of the car :what: Is there any way you could fire off a cylninder or two to warm that baby up.:D

My suggestion would be to either find a low-temperature-stable grease, one that won't thicken, or for winter use go to a dry graphite or teflon-based lube.

I think that cslinger said is on the money; I'd be more concerned about penetration issues re: multiple layers of clothing/cold weather gear.
I've heard anecdotally of JHPs cavity being plugged after firing through multiple layers of clothing and having the terminal ballistics of plain TMJ.

I've been considering carrying 357's in the winter(my usual is 38+P+)for the heavy clothing issue.......makes me think......

My original plan (now that MO passed CCW Finally) was to carry my SP during the summer for easier concealment, then switch to my Beretta 96 fs in winter.
Then I realized that people would be wearing more clothing, so I figure I'll keep utilizing the .357.
Then I realized the 96fs is easer to operate with gloves on!
Argh.
I think I am just going to stick with the SP year round though. I will need to practice shooting it with my big winter gloves on though.

Switched to 357's this week.....for now just Blazer JHP,the only one's I had around......on the way home today I'm stopping to get maybe Hyrda-shock or something similar.........never thought about gloves....I usually don't wear them, but THAT would be the time I need the gun......need to buy some thin leather gloves, maybe police gloves....anybody have any ideas??
