Steve,

If you don't mind me asking, where did you pick that up?

I remember selling those for $200 a pop [old geezer voice activated] when all this was orchard.

Of course, they called the "FN Police" Winchesters back then!:D

The Bard: "What's in a name?"

The Badger: "Tacticality is in a name, you silly twit!"

Sme place we should all be buying guns. My FRIENDLY neighborhood dealer/gunsmith.

;)

ET, I know the Win is about $50 cheaper, but I have to admit I'm an FN fan and I wanted the sights that the FN came with.

Steve,

Is this the standard, PUMP model, or the auto?

Thanks,

If he got the FN Police auto SG for $307, I would be SOOOO on that!

But I believe he meant the pump. The FN Police autoloaders (what I really want) goes for $800 approx.

i fondeled up one of those fn police models at the gun show saturday. all i gota say is....I NEEEEEEED ONE. man that thing pointed so well. It fell right to shoulder and the grip was great. i have to get used to putting my cheek in another place since im used to under the bone not on top of it. mainly cause of no drop like a normal shotty. price of one here in TN isnt exactly friendly but man its nice. once they come down a little bit here in TN it might be my HD 12ga shotty

Congrats, and yes looking forward to a report.
Now don't mind us, see we are jealous you have an easy name to spell "FN". Umm ...see the rest of the names we either abbreviate, mis-spell or both in our postings ;)

Steve, I have one of those and I like it. I have a little tip, if you are going to shoot 3in. mag slugs just to try it out, save a little money only buy a five pack. I came back from the range with three left over. First round felt like a sledge hammer to the shoulder, second round just to confirm the hammer like blow, (I am a slow learner). The advantages of light and handy are offset by an increase in recoil. Mine came with two chokes, don't forget to try both. One thing I like about it is the rotary bolt action. If you apply a little racking pressure to the forearm when shooting it will almost rack itself. Al

Its not here yet, silly! One doesn't get a "deal" like I get on a gun that is in stock!

It should be in within the week.

Jeeesuuuss, I had a 1300 Defender, and I hated that rotary bolt. Having several other pump-gun's it really threw me off. If you shoot nasty/heavy loads through it, the bolt disigauges and ejects the empty like an auto; I constantly found myself yanking the forarm back, and trying to figure what the #ell went wrong! Give me an Ithaca 37 DS police, Rem.-870, or Mossberg 500 series (in that order) any day! keep nasty rotating bolt's on M-16's;)

Everybody drives 'em differently, I reckon. I have already been applying rearward tension with a Mossy to speed the cycling...this will be even nicer.

Yea, I supose if you practice with that gun and only that gun, it would work as well as any other for HD. I just like/have too many different shotguns. I prefer pumps for that reason, I had both a benelli 90, and a SPAS-12; way too many doodads to think about fer me.:)

I went through that - now it's 870s and M37s. I have a 1300 though and have never had a problem. :)

Steve Smith, did you buy your FN used? I have not found a price lower than $600. Where did you buy it for $307? I think your FN is the regular police model with the regular stock.

Here's a pic of a a FN Tactical Police Pump Shotgun:

Ok, an update. First of all, nonbox, yes, this is the standard Police model. I would never buy an abortion like that "tactical" model. ick.

http://www.impactguns.com/store/media/fn_shotgun.gif

Anyway, yes, theshotgun came last night. Took me about 15 minutes to get all the styrofoam off, as the box lining was disintegrating and filling every crevice inside the shotgun...nice. I will say this, breakdown is much more simple than that of the Mossberg that I also have...not that it's hard.

First impressions are great, except one little thing. One of the screws that hold the rear sight blade on was missing. :( I'll look tonight to see if the little screws that fill the scope mount holes will fit. If not I'll have to order something and make something to hold the sight on in the mean time.

The chokes extend past the muzzle about 1/4" and are knurled. This is exactly what I wanted. There are sling swivels at both ends.

I performed a few tests last night with it, from Dave McC and Col. Cooper. There was exactly one finger's width between my thumb and nose (Dave's LOP test) and I could easily hold the shotgun, fully loaded, at arm's length with one hand for a minute. (upright) I can't believe how light this gun is, even fully loaded. This is going to be fun!

Mod Justin and I both noticed one thing about the gun. There is an absence of the stereotypical clanking and noise associated with pump shotguns. Sounds tight and more like an auto rifle. I kinda like it myself. Also, the gun requires you to close the bolt with some authority. If you just run the slide forward like a priss, the bolt won't close. This will probable loosen up with some use, but it definitely encourages proper (non-babied) operation.

More later.

There is a great deal of interest in the CAR stock adapters for the 870s. So why so much negativity to the FN Tactical Police Pump Shotgun' CAR stock. Is the recoil out of control with the CAR stock?

Dave McCracken
October 9, 2003, 06:20 AM
Thanks,Steve, waiting on the range test. I'd actually prefer two fingers 'twixt schnozz and thumb, but if it works under recoil, Huzzah!

Now BA/UU/R, but you knew I'd say that...

Steve Smith
October 9, 2003, 09:04 AM
Thanks Dave. I can always move my thumb (lol!). I am a little skittish about shooting it without that other sight screw because I'll for sure lose the damned thing. Might just take it off and use with the front bead for a while. I have it RTV'd in there now.

Nonbox, I have no need for a CAR stock, they have lots of things to catch on, and I would think they'd be quite uncomfortable to shoot with when shooting a lot and fast. Besides, it looks rediculous.

Dave McCracken

If'n you do take it off, chances are you'll shoot low as a result. Pattern for POA/POI first.

When you getting up this way again?

Has anybody shot a FN Police tactical with CAR stock? I would like to hear some feedback. Thanks.
