it wouldn't be a handgun :p
but if you're saying only one .22lr handgun, then I'd say ruger mark III 22/45 hunter.

Either a Ruger MKII or a S&W Model 17. Which would depend on other factors, but the Ruger would likely get the nod.

My 1948 S&W K22 Masterpiece. At time S&W guaranteed them to shoot 1.5" groups at 50 yards. Shooting from a rest I get minute of squirrel accuracy out of it at that distance and the limiting factor is me not the gun.

I'll be honest, I haven't shot a whole lotta different 22lrs, mainly a couple cheapo revolvers, my 10/22, my single shot bolt action, a savage, marlin model 60...
but I think out of all the ones I have AND haven't shot, I'd still take my 10/22. Simply because of the possibilities with it (endless aftermarket), the reliability, and the fun factor.

One of these 3 I guess. Probably the S&W, if for no other reason than it is a K-frame .22LR with 4" barrel and adjustable sights. And the smoothest of the bunch. Though I think the 22/45 Mk III might out-shoot it in a straight-up contest.

Have to get a new pic of the S&W. It wears Ahrend's smooth combat grips in cocobolo now. What a major handling improvement those make! And it looks sharp too! ;)

My good friend JUST purchased a .22/45 4" barrelled target pistol. I still prefer my Mark III Competition Model, but he loves his .22/45. I can see why, strictly because of the button bolt release! How slick can a pistol get! I fight daily my wimpy Competition's skinny bent-steel release. Imagine if all Ruger's innovations were merged into one fantastic pistol! cliffy

OK I give up, why can't I post this with capital letters?
When a user composes in all caps the forum software automagically converts all the characters to lower-case, except for the first letter of each sentence. This is done because posts in all caps are annoying to read, and are considered rude.
Unfortunately, you were bitten on the butt by a post consisting of only "S&W K-22", which was neither annoying nor rude. If your post had had at least one lower-case letter, it would have appeared exactly as you typed it.

I'm not sure yet. I'm still accumulating and shooting to find which I like the best. But very high on my current list is my Tanfoglio Force 22 (can't get it in the US) and the sweet feeling little 4 inch S&W 34 kit gun that the range owns and that I've shot on occasion.
Looking at rifle options too but this was about handguns, right?

As far as .22lr handguns, Browning Buckmark or Ruger MKIII. I've never had more than one at a time, and it's always been a Ruger only because I never seem to find the fancy buckmarks anywhere and have bought them spur of the moment.
If we expanded it up to rifles, probably a 10/22 with a set of peep sights or a dedicated AR-15 upper.

I already have it. It is a Accurate Arms 22lr conversion for my Glock. The look and feel are the same as the 9mm slide assy yet it is less expensive than buying a separate 22lr pistol.

My wife just picked up her car gun today and it's a .22lr Beretta. It's what she wanted due to low recoil and ammo availability. I would have preferred a revolver but it really is a nice gun. I don't think I could get single box of wheely ammo in this town nowadays to save my life anyhow. Mike

Well, okay, my Ruger Mk2. I can do anything with it I can do with my 10/22. Hell, it's more accurate! And, it fits in a shoulder holster.

Of the .22s that I've owned and shot, the Colt Woodsman Match Target is the best.
Also on the "A" list is the Buckmark Field 5.5.
The "B" list is; Beretta Neos, S&W 622 and a S&W K22, nice but I'm not a revolver guy.
The "C" is the Firestorm FS22, Walther P22, fun plinkers but no more.
The bottom of the barrel is the Sig Mosquito, not worthy of being in the same safe as the Colt. What was Sig thinking?
Just for fun and grins is the Walther TPH, which is a really fine pistol and a PX22, which wants to be a TPH.
The C.W.M.T. is far and away the best I've ever owned.

Actually, the TPH could easily be my second choice. Mine is accurate as 'ell, reliable with the right ammo (seems to prefer CCI mini-mags and Stingers), and makes a nice, flat, compact little kit gun...

Maybe you're right. I'd sell several of the others before I parted company with my TPH.
