do i need to go through a ffl dealer?

i live in N.E. and i want to trade some chevy small bock heads to a friend in Missouri. for a marlin 30-30. can this be done legally or do we need the asistance of a licensed gun dealer. theirs no money involved. but state lines will be crossed.

south east of springfield in rogers vill is were the gun is now, i live in omaha nebraska. we were going to meet in KC and do the trade there. once again its a straight trade no money involved. he lives in missouri sorry about that

Not legal.

You may buy or trade for a rifle across a state line from a FFL dealer, but not from John Doe. I think a dealer could take possession of the rifle, list the gun in his bound book and then sign it out to you to keep the deal legit. Probably not for free, though.
