I have seen and read how a good flashlight is a CCW best friend. So, what do you carry/recomend and why?

Welcome to THR. There have been a few good recent threads on flashlights- no real need to recap. In a nutshell, lights are small and cheap these days. There's no excuse for not having some kind of light on you always.
A small, dimmer "task light" and a brighter "tactical light" are the way to go.

Here's more to share:
I just came back from Walmart (I'm in Anchorage for a conference, it's nice to be where there are stores and restaurants again!) I brought with me a Coleman Cree headlight. Their small Cree AAA flashlight was pretty decent for as inexpensive as it was so I decided to give the headlight a try. What a waste of my $28 that should have gone to a Princeton Tec Quad or Eos instead. It'splenty bright enough but it's constructed very cheap and the switch doesn't inspire me with much confidence in its longevity.
On another note, I have another complaint: The Fenix P2D is a very bright little 1-CR123 battery flashlight. As I said, it's VERY bright in its Turbo mode, but the package warns you not to use it in Turbo mode for very long because it'll overheat. Um, what's the use of a flashlight with a "never burn-out bulb" if you make it over-powered so it's going to burn out? I know, there are lower levels of brightness you can use it with, but I have a problem with the thinking behind the engineering of a product that's going to destroy itself LONG before its normal life should be up. In normal mode there are three different levels you can use, but you have to go through the whole "Push once for low, twice for medium, three times for high" crap. Not impressed with this particular Fenix.
My Proton Pro (http://www.laughingrabbitinc.com/p_proton_pro.htm), on the other hand, I like more and more all the time.
