I got a new sr9 about a week ago and had put about 100 rounds through it with no problems. took it out today and on the 1st shot of the 3rd magazine I'd put through it I had a fte. the empty shell was jammed by the slide and the takedown pin was slightly out. since this was the first shot I thought maybe i had somehow pushed the pin out while putting the magazine in. then on the next mag it did again this time on the 3rd shot though. has anyone else had this problem or maybe im doing something without realizing. any help would be appreciated.

Did you clean it after the first outing?

I did clean after the first outing. i was careful to reassemble it correctly, followed the book, and dry fired several times after.

My WAG would be you didn't have the take-down pin all the way back in place after cleaning the gun. You've probably already tried this, but if not, pretend Bill Gates built your pistol--take it apart and put it back together again. Make sure the pin is all the way back in, then head to the range. If everything suddenly works fine, you probably didn't have it back together completely the first time.

(I did that once with a Ruger GP100. That was the only time that pistol EVER malfunctioned.)

Now, if the pin is in tight when you START shooting and comes loose after 2-3 magazines, you may need a new pin. Call Ruger and ask them what you should do. If that's the problem, they may just send you a new take-down pin.

I haven't had anything LIKE this happen to mine in 500+ rounds.
