What are some good 1911's for someone on a budget.
Kimber, Wilson, and Baer are on extreme high side of my price range.

Colt 1991A1 basic blued new roll mark. Excellent quality, excellent fit and finish, as nice if not nicer then some of the base Kimber Customes that I have seen lately.
Springfield Mil-Spec. Great gun that I rarely hear of anybody having problems with.
Those are probably the two that offer you the best gun for the money. It seems like when you go cheaper you start having problems and more expensive gets a whole lot more expensive.
I have also heard Norinco's are great shooters and make a decent base for custom guns but I have no personal exp.

For a budget purchase I'd go with a used Colt Series 70.

My SA Milspec was $470, NIB.
so far I've been very happy with it (400 rds fired with only a couple of feeding problems, both of which were mag-related)

Kimber (http://www.kimberamerica.com/index2.php)
You should be able to pick up a Custom for around $575 or so easily.

Kevinch,
Which Kimber(s) would go for $575.00? I haven't seen those kind of prices
for a Kimber. $800 or so here.
I would like to get my hands on a Kimber but I want something new.
Thanks

megcatia,
You can pick up a used, but in excellent shape Series I Kimber (not stainless) for around $ 575. I personally will not buy any Series II Kimbers. You can pick up new Series 80 Colts for less than that. I think Colt is the best right now, but they still have some QC issues here and again. These issues are mainly cosmetic and plunger tube related.
I am currently looking closely at the new Springfield WWII Mil-Spec. I looked at one at a shop yesterday and will probably go and buy it tomorrow. This one is $ 408 out the door.

Whats the difference between Kimber Series I and II?

Series II Kimbers have a firing pin blocker that is de-activated by the grip safety. They are all designated with a II, for example Custom II. Much debate has transpired over this issue. Some people have had problems with their gun firing due to not holding the grip safety the exact right way to de-activate the firing pin blocker. The intent of this safety is to prevent the gun from discharging if dropped, however some people have not been able to get it to discharge at all or have had other problems or malfunctions.
Mainly for me, I do not want an additional safety that may or may not cause problems with the gun firing and definitely makes field stripping more of a challenge. This is only my opinion, of course.

Not only are you getting a "Colt"; customer satisfaction seems to be higher with Colt's than the other 2 Big names these days.

Best buy I've gotten so far has been a Kimber TLE II. Came from the factory with night sights and 30 lpi checkering . It is very accurate and I have yet to experience a jam.
