I'm looking for a SAA clone in 38-40 and would prefer one in stainless steel with a 5 1/2 inch barrel. The 38-40 seems to be a little neglected by most companies and stainless is bot as easy to find as nickel/blue/case hardened. I would be thankfull of any help steering me in the right direction. Do any of the clone makers/importers even make a peacemaker in this configuration.

I know some of the Colt & Colt clones can be had in 38-40 but Stainless Steel limits the choice, as the only one I can think of is Ruger. Ruger made a limited run of their older Vaquaro's in 38-40 that are no longer in production. You may find them occasionally for sale on Gunbroker or other auction sites but they will cost you. If you can leave Stainless out of the picture, then you can go with USFA, Colt, or some of the Italian clones. Be aware you will most likely have to order them as many will not carry them in stock, but you should be able to get them. Good luck, LM. Here's a couple for sale.

And if you type in search 38-40, you will get a hole search page of 38-40's.

Thanks for the tip on the Rugers. I don't "need" a stainless steel 38-40, but I figured if I was going to have to special order one anyway (since nobody stocks them), might as well look for a stainless model. I guess I'll have to start looking for a Vaquero.
