Hi there. I guess the saying is correct, try as many JHP's you can in your SD weapon to find out which it likes best. Well, i bought a pack (50 rds) of WWB JHP to try out and gave half box to my buddy. He got a Taurus 24/7 9mm and i got a sigma 9mm (nothing but wonders with FMJs). Well, that was 4 months ago !!! I have never tried shooting them but kept the JHP's loaded by the bedside. So comes the day when i finally managed to go to the range.

Wow, every 3rd round, it will FTF (feed). Rack the slide, it went in, went off, load another rd, went off, then jam. It was very frustrating but at least i know i should be looking around for another type of bullets. Good thing i only have around 2 mags of those.

So what are your recommendations for good, reliable JHPs preferably ones that don't break the bank, buut i'm open to suggestions so fire away.

Try rem umc jhps, they are about the same price as the usa but have an ogive more similar to ball ammo so they feed more easily.

I would suggest you take a look at the venerable Federal 115gr. +P+ (9BPLE). It has been in service with a number of agencies for a number of years, where it has earned an excellent reputation for effectiveness. It also has a profile very similar to FMJ, which, in my experience, makes it very reliable. I have never had a failure to feed with it.

Also, because quantities of it come onto the market from time to time as the result of cancelled orders or lots being surplussed out, it can be had relatively inexpensively. Ammunition to Go (http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/index.php/cName/9mm-hollow-point-ammo) has it right now for $19.95 per box (less if you buy bulk), and Streichers (http://streichers.com/ProductList.aspx?catalog=Guns+and+Ammo&category=AMMO_DHAND) has it for $17.00 per box. That's per box of 50, by the way, not 20. To me, that has meant a lot more range time with my carry ammo than when I was carrying Winchester's 127gr. +P+ Ranger SXT (now "T" Series), which my local guy is currently selling for $38.95 per box of 50. The more time I spend shooting the actual ammo I carry the more confidence I have in it's reliability in my pistol and my accuracy with it.

If you are concerned about the +P+ rating on it, I wouldn't worry. From what I understand, it is not loaded any hotter than SAAMI +P specs. They label it +P+ because they load it to the very top of the pressure range (38,500 PSI, if memory serves), and they are making allowances for variances in the manufacturing process which might take the odd round ever-so slightly over spec. Subjectively, it doesn't feel any hotter to me than +P ammo of the same weight. I would suspect your Sigma should be able to handle it fine.
