due to a recent change in clothing and carry, i find myself in need of a good gunbelt. prior to my recent move, a local shop had ross belts, and i liked them for jeans and t-shirt wear, but that shop is no longer local, and i need something for office wear.
i need a belt for formal business attire. i need enough belt to support a sig 229, and it needs to look like it belongs w/ a suit. suggestions? also, where to buy? thanks for any help.

If you are going to be wearing a suit, the most popular 1.5" wide belt will probably be too large for your belt loops. The next size down is 1.25" which should fit properly.
I would take a look at The Beltman and check out the bullhide or horse hide models he has available. Speak with the owner, Jim and ask him his thoughts. He can put in a stiffener that would give the belt additional support if he feels it would be necessary.

Good luck.

A straight 1 1/4" belt should support a lighter gun like the SIG just fine. Jim (Beltman) can also make a 1 1/2" that tapers to 1 1/4" at the ends (the visible portion, if your coat is open). If your pant belt loops are not wide enough for this, a tailor can fit new ones.

Mitch Rosen's tapered belts are another option:

I bought a 5.11 Belt with a hidden handcuff key from lapolicegear.com and it's pretty good. Stylish for daily wear but stiff enough to hold a couple gallons of milk. Its like wearing a piece of rebar. Hope that helps. P.S. was $35 plus shipping

Slight detour...
You know how a frisbee might cost $0.89 at Wal Mart, but the same frisbee at PetSmart will cost you $4.99 because of the specialty store's markup?
Are there equally good or better belts that are not marketed as gun/holster belts that wouldn't hold that specialty markup?

I looked for quite a while to find a belt that was close to a real gun belt. I never found one.
Go to Rafter S Gunleather. Good belts at good prices.

I have a "natural" color beltman horsehide 1.5" belt. It's not cheap, but it's great. Nothing worse than a holster flopping around. I carry a Sig 229 which isn't exactly a lightweight. It sits right where it should and stays there.
