I may not own yet, but I would like to get all those things out of the way before I apply on my 21st birthday (only 9.5 mos away).

Can take the classes here, AZ, but can't get the ticket till of age.
If take class too early, have to take it again.
Fun and informative anyway.

Depends on the state and the instructor. Find out what's available near you.

Whether you take it now or wait, don't settle for the basic class. Save up and get a course from one of the bigger schools or instructors. You won't believe how much you THOUGHT you knew!

In Colorado, a training class is good (legally) for 10 years, and there's no reason you can't take one before you're 21. I took one at 19...

I just asked that question here in KY (my son turns 21 soon) and was told "NO, he must be 21 in to take the class for his CCW." They will (of course) let him take the class but claim that it would not count for his CCW requirement.

I would ask the CCDW division of the Kentucky State Police on that one, Logistar...

Sounds like a bad attitude to me!

I would ask the CCDW division of the Kentucky State Police on that one, Logistar... Hmmm... actually that's a very good idea. A while back I was told that you could take the class, get the paperwork back and THEN apply to the State Police when you turned 21.

Now that my son is almost 21 I tried 2 different places that said he had to wait until he was 21 for it to count.... but they COULD be wrong.

I'll try and check with the KY State Police. I'll post back if I can get any solid info.

Here in Texas, your CCW training cert. is good for 6 months, so if you're over 20 1/2 y.o. you can take the class. There's no legal prohibition on taking it earlier, so I guess you could take it before then, but you'd have to retake it later to get the license. My little brother took his class ~3 months before he turned 21.
