I just bought one today and after taking it out to the range for a few rounds I can report that this isn't a gun for plinking.

While I really like the fact it is small enough to carry in my front pocket the .40S&W packs enough muzzle flip that my trigger finger gets smacked inside the trigger guard.

While not an exhaustive test, I only fired 50 rounds, I was able to keep the group inside 5 or 6" at 25 yards. According to Kahr, you need to fire over 200 rounds before the weapon is considered to be "broken-in." Seeing as how any real life encounter is very likely to be less than 25 yards, I feel the accuracy is more than sufficient. With more practice, I am sure my accuracy will improve too as will my tendency to flinch at firing from the previously mentioned trigger finger impact in the trigger guard.

Anyway, it carries nice and has manageable recoil and with the .40S&W round it has adequate performance for a CCW piece.

During my firing, I had no failures to load or fire.

I love my PM9 but from readng many many kahr posts the 40 cal in any of their polymer versions is a real bear to handle. Your groups to me are excellent, really. this is not a target gun, you barrel is short. trigger is loooong but smooth, I cannot do that good at all at that distance. I do all my shooting with my PM9 at 12 yards (mainly 7) and under.

I think kahrs were designed with that distance in mind.

A hogue grip would tame it down some and for sure a nice mag na port job would tame it down big time..

PM sent.

Cool gun RDF. Glad it's been reliable so far. My MK9 has been holding up, but it's pretty heavy.

What kind of ammo you planning on using once you start carrying your PM40 for CCW? It's got such a short barrel... 155/165/180 gr JHP?

Y. Sam, no reason ur MK9 should not be holding up. IMO one of the best ccw guns on the market. top quality through out, heavy compared to the PM9 but not compared to any other all metal semi. Nothing in its class either. Great gun. You won't live long enough to ever shoot that kahr out either..

Thanks jocko, it's doing a great job and I have no reason to doubt it.

Currently I'm using ball ammo to practice the feel and learn to control the gun. Also, with needing 200 rounds or more to fire, I'll save the expensive stuff for then. Currently it is not my CCW, I need to build up more confidence in this new gun first before it moves into the CCW slot.
I'm looking to use the new Federal EFMJ 135gr round which is a part of their "Personal Defense-Low Recoil" ammunition. I like the fact that it isn't an open mouth hollow-point and thus reduces the possibility of feed issues. Also, it has been tested and proven to be an effective self-defense round.

Do you have any suggestions for ammo?
